Afternoon all - it is just.
I read all about the virtues of various banks but am far too lazy to start changing things around. I've been with NatWest since 1959 when they were National Provincial and in all that time I have only been registered at 2 branches. I still have a cheque book that I've not used for ages, that still bears the name of the town where I lived for well over 40 years.
I regret that the days of the friendly bank manager are over. Mine was a huge help when I was setting up the school and often phoned me to find out how things were going and to give me a few more tips.
I think that the whole of life is missing the personal touch. However quick and efficient the computerised society is, there are times when you want to speak to someone who knows you and your circumstances. Ah well, unless there is a massive hiatus in the digital world, I guess those days are gone for good.
So much for philosophising on a Friday afternoon.

Monna, my housekeeping/spend account has been with Nat West for years and until I changed my name I kept the cheque book as it said "Liverpool University branch" 😁2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

monnagran - love today's thought.
Made a Birthday card for eldest Son - needs to go in the post.
One good thing about lockdown - I wasn't asked for help with Book Day costumes this year.
Been asked for one of the bunnies that I made yesterday.
I have 2 of the long leg bunnies cut out and ready to sew.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

floss, I can understand the nostalgia of having Liverpool University branch on your cheques. When I see the old name on my cheques I have a mental picture of the beautiful building the bank was in and expect to see dear Mr Pile sitting in his office. What a gentleman!
Florenceem, I get cross when people moan about lockdown. I know we have missed lots of things, but there have been lots of little bonuses, like not having to produce costumes for Book Day.
I wish I liked sewing. I can do it, and pretty successfully, wouldn't dare do anything else coming from generations of females doing it professionally, but I hate it.I believe that friends are quiet angels

I loathe world book day - as it's less about getting kids to read and so much more about them dressing up.
And, AND
I still haven't got over the fact that, my most beautifully created costume for DD which was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, was beaten in the 'best costume' competition BY ANOTHER DOROTHY. And all that girl had done was wear a school summer dress with some very sparkly red shoes. My Dorothy was created from scratch and was, if i say so myself, so much better - except the shoes. DD has very big feet so i could only get dull flat red shoes.... This was in 2007 and i am still not over it.... (the other girl was DD's best friend at the time and is a lovely girl - but still..... )
In other news - i've been able to book a vaccine. Seems the over 55s are now being accepted in my - and other, i gather - areas.
I wanna be in the room where it happens8 -
monnagran - I love sewing and it is not that I don't like to produce costumes - it is the lack of notice that I get. World book day is around the same time each year but either they forget about it or decide at the last minute that they need help or can't make up their minds what to dress up as. ( I am not so daft as to remind them and volunteer but wait to be asked)
One year - at short notice - I was trying to produce a Sloth costume - these things take time - I had to buy a baby's bottle, cut it and shape with a heat gun to make Sloth claws to glue to gloves.
Another year - at short notice - it was an Indinana Jones outfit. I had to find - in my huge stash - rope to make a whip and canvas to sew his bag. Then I had to find brown ink and paint to dirty up the bag.
I need time to think and create. My old brain doesn't work fast.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

VJsmum - I created a Victorian costume for DGD - made a mob cap/bloomers/velvet shawl and she even had a slate and piece of chalk attached to her skirt. Prize went to someone who always won - could it be that her Mum was a PTFA member?
