MingVase said:I wouldn't eat anything from the Cowgate, animal vegetable or mineral. I wouldn't even touch it without rubber gloves on.All I can say is it was a hot sunny day and I was wearing sandals. I had to do a quick move to my right to avoid someone vomiting on my feet. We'd had a lovely day until then. I discovered the Christmas shop which seemed to be an all the year round shop. There was a really good cheap book shop where I dicovered Blue above the chimneys the first of Christine Marion Frasers series about her life. I later read them all and other Scots authors I'd never heard of.We'd had a big scottish breakfast in Debenhans and I discovered there was such a thing as beef sausages. I'd never heard of them I was just used to pork and to be honest I didn't like them.It was the day I discovered dd1 hasn't a good sense of direction although she was driving all over Scotland on a daily basis. After escaping the Cowgate we walked around in circles looking for Greyfriars Bobby passing the same places over and over again until I asked a very nice man who took us there. I stood stroking Bobbys head until finally staggering into the graveyard .Another time we were driving from Milton into Glasgow. She'd mentioned picking up some food shopping and pulled into a supermarket car park just outside the city. I got out of the car and heard the locks go on. Tapped on the window and said Aren't you coming in ? Reply I'm staying with the car which seemed a bit odd. I walked towards the shop possiibly a Tesco and as I headed in to pick up a backet two huge guys with overloaded trolleys came running out followed by security and various staff members .It seemed safer to stay in the shop than leave. I just picked up a loaf and waited for the fuss to die down then left.I asked her why she used that shop and she said I don't I wouldn't leave the car unattended. It turned out it was a notorious area but it seems ok for mum.Boultdj As Denzil is a visitor to these shores I'm happy he keeps his name.pollyx.

He does like it, and is not keen on shortening it so I'm glad I don't have to upset a promising trainee by changing his name.£71.93/ £180.006

Pollyanna of the inconvenient memory, do you have a dossier on me by any chance? When did I ever confess to my addiction for Judge Judy? She's a wumman who talks sense, for an American.
I bet I could match your daughter for no sense of direction. I could well have been that child of whom the geography report was "Does well to find her way home." If you ever have to give me directions, it's best not to use words like 'east.'I believe that friends are quiet angels

Monna, believe me. Pollywolly keeps a dossier in her head on everybody. She trained in the KGB.

Monna and Ming you can have a good laugh now. Somehow Pollywollydoodle locked herself out of her account. At least I'm back as me Mar, no vase required.I think it was during the long wait to move home surrounded by al your worldly goods Monna that you began to mention Judge Judy.I have no connection with the KGB Mar. Four offspring and some memorable pupils left memories over the years.I'm ok with Denzil mothernerd however I suspect the login problem came about when I suddenly realised I'd mentioned the C word when talking about the year round shop on Princes St.31st of August and I've killed an elf!If the boys in blue ever visit here for some reason they're going to worry about my google searches.Today was killing an elf. I thought if I started there I may discover how to bring one back to life.Advice was sprinkle with Cinnamon but I realised that was for the elf on the shelf variety my elf would be the traditional variety. It was quite horrifying Can an elf on the shelf murder you? I killed the elf in the oven! it made me very glad we never had one.So I know you don't like the C word mentioned early and am sorry i did.Would it help if I knitted an elf? Not a big one I'm making winter shawls .I hope there will be suitable intervals between fence parties I didn't even attend the recent one but may as well have done.Mar It was Maryhill. It was nearly 20 years ago and a quick check with dd1 this evening revealed there's been a regeneration programme taking place in recent years.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

When dd1 was living in Milton Glasgow was nearer than Edinburgh although we would visit both along with Braehead and other areas. She actually lived in three different ares over the years including Drumbeg. The big house over the river near Aberfoyle was my favourite. Youcould see the first Monroe she bagged from her kitchen window. Loch Lomand was near and the forest walks were lovely. That was when I first heard of Avon Skin So Soft which was effective against midges.Youngest and I used to stroll down to Aberfoyle. It was a small village but had a lovely little coop, a very good butcher , a garden centre and the scottish wool centre. There were often sheep and sheepdogs there which youngest loved. The last time I was in the Scottish wool centre they were having a sale. I noticed some room sprays reduced to £5.99. Made by Arran Aromatics . I chose Fern and it's Scotland in a bottle. One sniff and I'm back walking past the forestry commisioon with all the pines ,ferns and mosses.I always regretted not buying the remaining stock because I never found it anywhere again. Dobbies sold other scents but not that one.I still have about 3 inches left in that glass spray, every now and then I have a little sniff and it's retained that scent.I still have people tracking down the original Wax Lyrical lavender candles the RHS did a copy but they're lemony rather than the rich lavender scent of the ones made in Cumbria. In the garden centre in Aberfoyle I found a bright red jingle bell they had a little wooden plaque with varoius names on.We'd renently lost the cat of the heart and his name was there. It hangs on one of the wall lights until the tree is decorated and is the last thing added near the bottom. He loved the tree and all the bells. We'd hear him during the night jingling the bells so he has his own now.I've no idea if either the scottish wool centre is still there or the garden centre Mar but I think it's somewhere you'd like although it's quite a way from Edinburgh.Someone on the OS threads used to live near there but I can't remember who and I seem to think they moved away.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
