I have a good excuse (honest, miss, I've got a letter and everyfink) - my son is home this afternoon from a weekend in the vast metrolops that is known as Londinium. I have stuff to do, things to cook.

Hand up here for fence painting, if we're doing rainbow colours I've a fetching shade of yellow lurking in the shed.

Been looking for paint brushes all morning, nope! not there, Blast!  Need to buy some, just checking and not available in my local store today, so click and collect for tomorrow, I also entertained yesterday, big bro came over and went home with assorted baked goods. So today is clean house mess for me and trainee waiters...………..Denzel don't hoover the cat up please...…...Cat! Cat!......got to go.....

I was a bit confused about possible cannibilism of the waiters but have just seen the latest post from Ming the Merciless. one of these days you'll topple into the freezer with multi elephant capacity and there'll be no friends left to pull you out unless you spent yesterday digging mantraps for gangsters. I doubt there are many nearby though when we were looking for the statue of Greyfriars Bobby dd1 led us from Princes St through the Cowgate. I saw a few likely candidates there. Oh I shouldn't be giving you idea.

Can we persuade Denzil to change his name? He sounds like someone from Only Fools and Horses. With apologies to anyone called Denzil who may be reading. No Ming your second name is not Denzil!

mothernerd You have a heart of gold. So much planning , care and effort to create such a special day for your mum. You push yourself constantly regardless of your own health problems. I'm hoping you slept ok although there's usually painful payback when bedtime arrives. If there are leftovers just serve them today , get your feet up and rest. You're allowed to do some sewing or cross stitch but no pushing yourself or dragging stuff around the garden.

Thanks, I'm still in bed (have showered but slipped back under the covers to get thoroughly dry before starting with various creams). Spent the morning mostly reading and thinking leftovers is the way to go - three slices of melon and a few strawberries won't go far if we have company but will do for the two of us. I bought some crab spread as a treat for me and that would use up leftover crackers and any broken ones - did I just invent tidying by eating. Sugar free jellies with berries in the fridge. Clear out all the bits. The only job I was thinking about was putting water (and maybe some milton) in a bucket and dropping old yoghurt pots etc in it - can leave it, come back in next advert break and make decisions on which are worth keeping and which should go in the recycling - a few of the containers used over the weekend already went in, all re-used several times for defrosting/ storing/ cooking etc.

I wouldn't eat anything from the Cowgate, animal vegetable or mineral. I wouldn't even touch it without rubber gloves on.

Happy to have help Polly, I don't know if we can get him to change his name, he's American, from Washington, I wonder if we can get him to shorten it?  Will Den do you Polly?  Or how about Zee?
