It is pulling in colder and darker here. I had a candle flickering last night and was quite settled at what was coming.

I've finished my shawl which I'm wearing today, plan on arranging the chimney sweep next week and the pot for the wood buying will be complete in the first week of Sept. I too need an overhaul of my wardrobe. It's time to put all the summer items bar a few basics away.

I'm looking forward to the children going back to school and rolling my sleeves up.

Hello thread. It has been a while. :)

We still seem very much set in summer here but I am enjoying the evenings drawing in.

We moved last month to the most amazing little bungalow with a seriously huge and mature garden and stunning views. It's been a challenge fitting everything in (I thought I'd done well at getting rid of stuff until it came to actually trying to squeeze it all in). We need lots of work doing but the money is set aside, it will be done in order or urgency and not just because (yes the kitchen and bathroom are old and manky but they are now clean and useable)

The allotment is providing huge amounts this year which is fab, beans have been slow to get going but 2k picked yesterday along with 8.5 kilos of courgettes! Will be making a big part of the garden into more growing space next year and I'm really thinking about chickens too...must see if I can find the chicken thread for some tips.

Need to get my OS skills up and running big style to make use of everything we're growing and find some ways of stocking up for winter/brexit (always like to have a winter stock pile) with limited storage.

I love this time of year, coming into Autumn is just the best!

Nice to see the thread appear again. Agreed, mrslw, we should try harder :)

Sorry Pooky, glad you like autumn but all I see it as is "precursor to winter" which I just detest...

Still busy typing, typing. I have had my deadline extended to January which is both good and bad news. Good because it removes some pressure, bad because I just want to be done with it. it also meant I had to pay some fees :(

OH still enjoying his retirement. let's see how different it is in winter.... (though I have a list for him :rotfl:)
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I am glad that this thread has resurfaced......... I couldn't find it :o. It was this thread that inspired me to join MSE. I don't post often on here but I do like to read along as there is always a new (to me ) idea floating within it. One is never too old to learn :T
I too like the autumn and the dark nights, makes me feel all cosy and warm wrapped up on the sofa with a blanket :). Today has been grey and cold here, so the blanket is already in use.
I have also started adding a few extras to my winter stash. I've started with winter meds, tinned goods, tea bags and bread flour, but I need to get more toilet rolls next week. A girl must have tea bags and toilet rolls...... at least this one does :rotfl:.
PS thanks Jazee I have also subscribed to the thread....... brilliant thank you!

Good to see you all, I have to admit I've been tardy keeping up with this post, need to get back to it!

Enjoy your new house pooky, the garden sounds like it will keep you busy.

Any news of your move monnagran?

I'm getting very excited waiting for DD to have her baby, don't know which make yet, makes the excitement greater!
  • How long has DD got to go Camelot? we have 3 weeks maximum for DD1s little girl to arrive and 6 weeks maximum for DD2s third little boy to arrive and they're booking us for baby sitting duties already, in fact they both have a wedding to go to on the same day but DD2 has already got us in the calendar to go and look after the older boys for a couple of nights so sadly DD1 will have to find an alternative sitter.

No Camelot. Everything has gone quiet as apparently someone in the chain is out of the country until the end of August. My buyer and I are keeping everything crossed that we could be moving by the end of September.
This will be the 7th moving date I have prepared for. It loses its charm after a bit.

Pooky, like you I am downsizing into a bungalow for my declining years. Not that I'm suggesting that your years are declining, but you know what I mean.
I have the manky kitchen etc too , plus heavily stained and Artexed ceilings and far from the garden being huge and mature with lovely views, mine resembles a prison exercise yard. Well, perhaps that is a tad exaggerated, but not by much.
Still, it is practical, or will be, and there is a bus stop virtually outside the door. These things have to be considered.

Monna having a bus stop outside of the door is just the absolute best. Great strategic planning from your good self there. :D great minds. ;)

Due date 2nd September Mrs LW. I thought the last few weeks would go quickly but it's taking forever!

Sorry you haven't moved yet monna, fingers crossed - again!
  • Woo hoo, DD1 is due 14th September and DD2 6th October, going to be interesting!

Morning all we have bright sunshine, I am off to have a haircut at 10.30 and HWK is dying noisily and sniffily in the lounge because he has a cold. I am not unsympathetic but I've got it too and am getting on with things between nose blowing and sneezing and fully intend going out for most of the day to give him some peace and quiet. There is home made mushroom soup for his lunch so he can just take things easy and get better. Looks like it's going to be a warm weekend such a change for a Bank Holiday we must make the most of it before the autumn sets in, have a good one all xxx.
