Quick pleasures for today (still only Wednesday).

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Cleaned the hens out and put in new deep bedding. They've just started laying again!

    3) Did bits round the house including making the tea by 9.30am.

    4) Smaller son did some homework.

    5) Spoke to my school friend on the phone for 2 hours.

    6) Tasty tea of sausage casserole followed by blackcurrant flan (trying to use up everything in the freezer).

    7) Bigger son has been to games night with my brother and brother in law and it sounds like he has just got back.
  • So I’m out of the cast and into a boot. I was very excited about this appointment as I felt it would be significant progress. I was disappointed! I can do very limited in my house ONLY, walking with a walker...nurse suggested getting one with a seat to rest when I tire..... for the next five weeks!
    Boo hiss!!

    * Sleeping in my bed for the first time in five long weeks. The loveseat recliner wasn’t bad but there is nothing like one’s own bed!!!

    * Being rolled around Sam’s Club, while we shopped, by my son with my DH manning the basket. We went after the doctor visit and I was thrilled to be out and about—— even in a wheelchair.

    * Cyber Monday shopping got me through with all Christmas shopping. Stuff is already arriving on my doorstep. I did find a darling girly indoor tent for Quoy!, pink with flower appliqu!s all around.

    * Fabulous asado at a tiny hole in the wall Mexican food place on the way back home from the doctor. Six hours round trip. I live in the middle of nowhere so must drive to specialists. And the chips (tortilla) were warm and crisp while the salsa was to die for!!!!!

    * Using my toilet... yes I know it’s TMI... but this portable one sitting right in front of the recliner was getting old!

The boot is huge and worse in many ways than the cast but I can manage to get around my sitting room and bedroom now. Haven’t ventured to the kitchen yet. Baby steps.:D
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Good morning, it's Thursday and it's blooming cold! And I think I may have the start of a blooming cold. I don't get them very often thankfully but feeling a bit scratchy in the throat area. It may come to nothing. But so many snottery people around me as I think take your germs and go!

So I've been without the use of my iPad for 2 days and I use it all the time and I'd tried to switch off and restart and it wouldn't and then was talking to DD1 earlier and she suggested something and it's worked, so , hurrah! I'm back! I miss posting my pleasures.

So for the past few days :

The decorating is finished for now! Every wall in house apart from my bedroom has been painted white. Downstairs was all done before I came home and I've done the rest, but due to awful painting by tenants has been many , many coats of paint and it bores me doing it. But it's done! And it looks bright and clean.

Papered the alcove in DD1's room and had enough left over to do a wall in the downstairs loo. It's a lovely yellow with hares and birds and hedgehogs and plants on it.

Lovely dog walks. I'm lucky to be a 2 minute walk from country lanes and enjoy my traipses through fields in the morning, preferably the frosty mornings which makes it easier underfoot than the muddy ones! Haggis can be let off lead and there is no fear of snakes which was a huge deal for me back home.

Haggis. My boy. My joy. He is such a good companion and I'm glad we're doing our life journey together. He will love having his family home next week. He is lying across my knee as I type!

Children! Well! Yesterday I woke through the night, checked my phone for the time and saw a message from DD1 with a problem... I got all worked up and by the time I got through to her the problem had been resolved ...she obviously wasn't expecting me to be up through night trying to sort it and hadn't thought to tell me she'd sorted it her end! Then son had an issue so sorted him out and DD2 has minor dramas always ...but that's her normal! I am looking forward to having them home with me next week.

Kellogg's are doing cereal advent calendars in our local T's for £3 for 24 mini boxes of cereal. So that's what my kids are doing for advent this year!

Went shopping with friend. She picked me up and off we set first thing yesterday, she had a list. I didn't! I was laden with bags...she wasn't! Bought a beautiful cushion and got curtains for DD2's room. And some nice water carafes for dining table! Bits and pieces for kids but not too much as we have just cleared so much 'stuff' that I don't want to add to it again!

Came home and found a lovely bunch of flowers on my doorstep! A friend had popped round but I must just have missed her. That was nice.i love flowers.

Went for lunch whilst out yesterday so didn't need tea last night. Was still stuffed. An international buffet. Met my neighbour!

Fell down the loo....literally, was stretching to reach the ceiling in bathroom and thought I will just stand on loo and the lid snapped in many pieces and I fell foot first down it! I was fine, had a laugh and a shake of the head at my stupidity!

Cleared some more boxes in garage. Friend came and took a pile of empty ones away at just the right time and then I recycled more. There's things in house that I've unpacked ( pictures/ rugs) that I don't want so they can go in garage but I needed space to put them away.

Another friend came in in Tuesday night ( neighbour friend I've known for nearly 30 years) and we sat and blethered and she just listens when I cry. She brought me some books. I've not read in such a long time. It's a concentration thing and I think my concentration limits have been reduced since OH died but I've also had so much to do that my reserves are low from that, that sitting reading a book would tip me over the concentrating edge...if that makes sense...I know what I mean!

It's 9 months tomorrow since OH died and I just think how can that even be a thing to say? I miss him so dreadfully. Opening boxes in the garage is like an emotional assault. I'm not sure how Christmas will be without him but I also love Christmas and I'm determined that won't change! When I put all our decorations away last year I sobbed and sobbed in his arms as I knew he wouldn't be with us this year. Yet he wouldn't want me to not be Christmassy self. I want to be my Christmas loving self and I shall be but oh it's hard. And I don't know I if this will sound really selfish but I just realised yesterday that I won't get a lovely gift from him. He was always good at gifts, he always left it to the last kick which freaked my organised self out but he always chose lovely, thoughtful things. I ache with missing him.

But I have my dog, my children will be home, we have a home, which was the reason I came back early, to make it home for them to come back to, there's food, there's a table and chairs, theres beds all made up and ready, there's warmth, there's certainly love and we have friends who care. There will be mince pies and much laughter and music on the radio. It's enough.

Today will be dog walks and emptying boxes, helping friend this morning and visiting another friend this afternoon. Have a good day :)

Hey Mila glad to hear that things are on the mend, albeit slowly.
Oh Mhags sending warm thoughts, Rosie and Tilly are keen to give you a Lab/Spaniel cuddle.

    Wednesday pleasures,

In to horsey town, another :j for opticians who, when faced with my horsey fall broken glasses, said no don't need new frames, we can just order the fronts and fit lenses etc. I was expecting a bill for new frames so very happy.

Popped into Mr Sparks opposite and picked up some YS veg and some non reduced cherry chocolate liqueurs, it's all about balance :D

Boiler serviced by usual cheerful chappie, all ok.

Lulu eating a huge parsnip and savouring every bite. Banked up her stable with fresh shavings, left her bigger turnout rug out ready for snow and left her all cosy eating her hay, this makes my heart very happy.

Honey baked snorkers with remaining parsnips and cauli cheese, just what was needed after a very cold dog walk!
  • Did look at liedepedia yesterday & as I refuse to let the google garner data from BoP, so I don’t see the pictures it puritanically corrects the world with, whilst harvesting hate! Please do not sign into this goggle thing, and clear your cookies etc after even getting close to it! Avoid!

Now for your autogenerated full on top antics from BoP! Just like licking out of the blue window inn buck of face!

5 Now as you all are aware that BoP has beach ready looks, well last eve in the gym while watching BoPsie’s botty wobble on the treaders, BoP was able to show off his flat stomach! No lumps and chewy bits. That is what proper foods do!

4 On with proper foods, we has decided for Snorkers and Mash for christmas lunch. Apple, onion, Lincolnshire and pork ones, served with creamy mashed spuds, leeks, carrots & swede, and sprouts. I advise that you get your sprouts on now! Anyway, inn the BoP’s Lunch Box today, and you should see not only the beach ready looks, but the lunch box that is with it, BoP has fest of Applewood cheese, Bourneville chocolate, salad, cakes of Jaffa, and a delight of Turkish! All good for you and none of that nuclear precooked carp from the emporium that is full of salt and rissoles!

3 After that lunch box, and I mean it was fest for BoP, down at the mill, a stoker I placed inn to the customer to press the cloth we make, has his access to the notwork removed by their IT person! Yes, these softies are only there to create problems, such as goggle thing as well. No worries, he can connect by not being there! I’ve piped up to millwright and millwright is having words with the tailor!

PM2DD Not one to say but upstart at Everton had a decent punt yesterday! Suppose we will get replays from now until he does not turn up for the World Cup things!

    Take a punt!

Big internet hugs mhagster. I hope you have a lovely, sparkly Christmas. No doubt there will be tears, but I wish you lots and lots of laughter too!

    My pleasures:

    1. WFH yesterday was bliss. I got loads of work done, and also had a wooden sash window man come to quote, external door guy do final measurements, the boiler serviced, processed laundry, cleaned the kitchen, hoovered and tidied the whole house. Yet somehow the bulk of my memory from yesterday was at the dining table, in the flow of work, with Radio 3 on in the background and a steaming hot cup of spiced orange tea.
    2. The above efforts, and a little help from DH in the evening, resulted in a very tidy home, which I will enjoy returning to.
    3. Food shop last night. £36.44 which isn't bad but we've spend over £250 this month which was wayyy over budget. I need to take inventory and get back into the swing of serious frugal meal planning. Anyway, my pleasures are that it's done for the week (phew) and I treated myself to a £1.99 poinsetta from Lidl. Looks beautiful in the living room, here's hoping it lasts. Plus it means I'm enjoying fresh fruit today rather than the frozen and dried fruit and nuts we've been on for the past few days.
    4. French - I managed to do my homework and have also prepped for tonight. Looking forward to class tonight :)
    5. Yesterday I ordered a Madame Alfred Carrier rose for my garden. It probably won't bloom until 2019 but I'm very much looking forward to it happening!

Huge hugs Mhags, you are amazing x

    1. We LOVE the house we went to see this evening!! It's quirky and lovely and big enough for us. Just have to hope that the owners will let our bid be the favoured one - although it is housing association so the price is the same for everyone. Hopefully I'm in a really good position, with a mortgage offer, secure job, good deposit, etc etc.

    2. Took DD for hot chocolate and a YS cake at Wrose, and I had my free mocha. Yum!

    3. Have ordered another Crimble pressie for my mummykins, cheaper than Amazon, yay.

    4. DD seems happier than she has been in a while, pre-teen life with hormone, school pressures and the like is tough. I'm just trying to make sure I'm always open to listen to how she's feeling and give her as many hugs as she can enjoy :)

    5. Looked back through English books with my colleague, and we were relieved and happy to see that there has been huge progress in our classes since September. We are doing something right, even if at times, we've felt like no matter what we did, it would be wrong!

An early update from me, for once!

    1) An annoying morning with smaller son pretending to be ill, then bigger son refusing to go to college if his brother wasn't going to school. After a bit of arguing I went back to bed (this was all at 7am) and fell back into a very deep sleep.

    2) Was then woken up by bigger son thrusting the phone at me. I had no idea what was going on, who I was talking to etc. The caller said her first name and I thought wildly that it was someone I used to go to school with - but where had her Worcester accent gone? I carried on talking with the unknown person for a minute then realised I was holding the phone upside down - that's how rudely I had been woken up! Rather embarrassing that it was smaller son's TA who kept asking was I alright, was I REALLY alright until I had to come clean that I had been asleep.

    3) Did a bit of shouting after the phone call and bigger son motorcycled off to college.

    4) Too late to salvage the day for smaller son so we went into town to the bank and drove through the narrow bit a few times for his entertainment. (The road goes through a gate house and there is 10cm to spare on either side of the car).

    5) I spent 2 plus hours in the afternoon sweeping and tidying the garden then cleaning out the porch, washing the woodwork down etc. It looks better now.

    6) Made burritos for tea then had some of the blackcurrant flan I made yesterday.

    7) Whisper it - bigger son has been contacted because they want to interview him for the apprenticeship he has applied for!

    8) Stove lit and looking forward to I'm a Celebrity later. Very cold tonight.

Mahoosive hugs for Mhags, Frith, hmm, Dr C. didn't leave until well into his thirties, DD at 19, and that went pretty badly.
DfV, re the lumpfish caviar, proper blinis are a fiddly PITA to do, but I will probably hijack some of the biscuits for cheese.
    KK, everything crossed for you.

    1. Dr C. seems to be okayish. This is a huge up. I have the promise from him of some jobs that will be done around the house as a Christmas present. He has a new snake, a carpet python. Fingers crossed all goes well with this one, his oldest snake must now be well over three score and ten in snake years, but is well-cared for.
The new one is very pretty.
    Sorry Mhags.

    2. I belong to a FB group that helps folks claiming ESA and PIP, following the announcement that more disabled people are to be helped into work, I posted on there as there were some comments along the lines of 'How the hell can we possibly work?'

My job is sooo disability-friendly, online, from home, set own workload, suitable for hearing impaired, can work 24/7... Anyway, some lovely people responded wanting to know about it, and one, at least, could definitely do it every bit as well as me.

    3. Watching the snow, and not having to be out in it. No sickening worry that a bus won't turn up, and I will be stranded miles from home, no teetering across slush and ice, shaking with fear at the prospect of a fall.

    4. Peaky Blinders. I love seeing my fictionalised mum in law on screen, (and Cillian Murphy).
    Go, Jessie!
They are playing fast and loose with facts, mind. 'Miss Eden's' sweetheart took his own life after the horrors of Passchendaele. Well, 'Miss Eden' was really 'Mrs Eden', she was 'Miss Shrimpton' before that, and was 14 when Passchendaele kicked off.

    5. Aldi's flavoured Nespresso coffees. Same price as the standard ones, and oh gosh... loving my daily treat of these.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

Not felt well this week but much improved today. Had a couple of days off sick and then worked not feeling well.
    For this week

    1. DS2 cooking when I wasn't feeling well.

    2. Some lovely sunrises.

    3. More decluttering of cupboards and found some items that can be re-gifted.

    4. A friend/ colleague texting me and asked how I was feeling and telling me about a conference she was at - the interesting bits.

    5. DH received a free diary so I don't need to buy one. Also received a calendar with my Gardeners world subscription. Paid for with clubcard vouchers.
