There's a time and a place for a Greggs steak bake (or cheese & onion one) - on a bitingly cold day, you're hungry and the bakes are just the oven they are fab... Their coffee & bacon butty is ok too but again it has to be in the right circumstances. For me mainly freezing my bits off in a cold railway station while travelling with work:)
The only time that I have ever have anything from Greggs is when I am with him, as soon as he sees a Greggs he is in there. I don't say no though, and have always enjoyed what I have had from there.

I've just burnt (or rather, incinerated) my pizza whilst replying to your post caron
I was determined to eat something other than toast tonight but I've been distracted by a Greggs Cheese and Onion Pasty  :rotfl:'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
I sat from 6am pondering the chicken.... it's defrosted, so I really needed to cook it - but I don't like to put the slow cooker on and go out, I always stay in the house while it's on because I'm usually cooking something I've not done before, so want to keep checking it's OK. They really do cook quicker than the books would have you believe, all of that "put it on, go out/all day at work, come home to a hot tea" is utter nonsense in my book
And, being single .... what if my car broke down and/or I was in an accident while out?
So, if I put the chicken on that'd prevent me, say, going out to the shops, the market, a car boot.... so should I put it on later, say 4-6pm when I've done anything for the day ....
Mulled it over for ages and decided to at least set up the cooker and cut up an onion .... and, from there, I ended up just putting the darned thing on
Not sure how long it'll take .... but I'd expect it to "look ready" in 2 hours .... and, as it's chicken, to then be "ready to eat in 3-4 hours".
Just have to watch it and see what happens....
It's a 560g breast, which I've sat on a sliced red onion and a carrot. Nothing else. No rub, no seasoning, no water. Plonk and Go.
I put "too much thought and effort" into my Xmas one... put it onto lemons (too lemony for me) ... did a rub which I mixed up, but couldn't tell the difference. I like the "plain taste of what I'm eating" so Plonk & Run it is today, "no nonsense added"0 -
off out for the day soon, added a poached egg on toast to my normal soaked muesli. higher protein. BTW over 60 needs higher protein and under 60 needs lower. Nearing 70, I have lately made a protein effort. No second chances at my age0

There's a time and a place for...
There are foods we all like, expect, treasure, under specific circumstances.
For me, one thing I always thought of was a giant hot dog, or a burger, at something like a fair/market... with onions and ketchup.
However, in recent years they've gone from being a hot/cheap treat to being an organic, hand reared, sensation, with an assortment of new-fandangled accompaniments ...and costing more than double the price.
So I stopped buying them.
I'm so pleased I've now found great burgers I can have in my freezer at home as now I can go to a fair/market, see the burger stall and then think of making mine at home when I go home! And at 1/10th of the price.0 -
Morning all. On the subject of Gregg's I absolutely love their Festive Bake and Festive Soup but now I no longer work next door to a Greggs so I haven't had it for over 2 years. Really fancy one now and I'm not a pie/pastry lover
At work today so a pack up of tuna sandwich (Thanks to HollyHarvey mentioning them!), pineapple jelly with pineapple chunks in, crisps, an apple and a cheeky chocolate biscuit for lunch. My neighbours are having a birthday party for the wife this evening and I've been invited so I'll pop round for a couple of hours. Tea is celery and potato soup with a crusty baguette followed by an individual Cadbury's fudge chocolate pudding with ice cream. I'm looking forward to that!
On the subject of hair I have used the same hairdressers for the last 10 years and I love them. £55 for highlights, lowlights, cut and blow dry which I have every 2 months. My hair is fine and in a bob and it always looks lovely so it's a worthwhile expense to me that I save up for every pay day.0 -
Chicken's still cooking .... not long now. It's looking (peering through the steamed up lid) like it's a 4-hour job.
It's too early for lunch though, so I'll just cool it. As I have an almost empty fridge, it's very easy for me to move the spread/cheese to one corner and pop the chicken into the fridge while it's still "pretty hot". The issue with putting hot/warm food into the fridge is that it has the potential of raising the temperature and putting other foods at risk.
There's no food in my fridge that could be at risk in a raised temperature, so it's OK for me to do that.
If I'd known what I was doing today I'd have put it on later, to dovetail with a meal time.... but I couldn't know if I'd randomly remember a shop to visit ... so I thought the best thing to do was to get it cooked soonest/earliest, in case I thought of something to do later.
I've a yearning to make a chicken casserole with dumplings.... so that might/might not happen in the next 2-3 days. It's all about "fancy" and "CBA".
I took the time for a quick run to L1dl (walked with the trolley) .... got spuds (thinking of what to serve the chicken with) .... stocked up on their weekend offer on kitchen towels (three packs of 4 purchased) and Emmental cheese (never had it before, bought 3)... which I thought could end up as an emmental quiche at some point ... using the spuds as a crust. I also picked up a 35p loaf, as I've no bread.
Tomato sandwich was late breakfast as I had the last of the tomatoes I bought the other week and that new loaf I just got...so that was easy enough to choose.
I've been wondering whether I should buy a swede (seemed to be 45p in 4ldi and 49p in L1dl) ... so I could make some mashed swede up to dollop on the side of a chicken casserole. But I haven't been able to decide that for the last 2 days still... so haven't bought one.0 -
I went up to the town to get some milk earlier and had a look around the market. On the veg stalls most of the fruit and veg was the same price or more expensive than I can get it in the supermarkets so I didn't bother.
I had a mooch in M & S as well but I really must not buy any food other than fresh fruit/veg, milk and bread, probably for the next year, I have already spent more than my whole food budget for this year
I just had some Greek yoghurt and blackberries for breakfast.
I fancy a cheese and pickle sandwich for lunch, and I'll have some salad on the side.
Dinner will be a lasagne that I made some time ago and froze with some garlic bread.0
