    Morning to all.

Torrential rain in the night and some of the roads in these parts have flooded - glad I don't have to venture far. However the sun is now trying to peep through, which is a welcome change.

Breakfast was porridge and 2 bananas which were looking very sad. I'm meeting the chap who founded the widowers' group for a light lunch - a welcome change. As for the last meal of the day - bet you can guess lol

Hope those who are poorly, are on well on the road to recovery :)

    Good morning everyone,
I'm waiting to get in the shower - the downside to having the kids home:rotfl:
"Greek" feast tonight which I'm really looking forward to - we are having lots of dishes that I can't pronounce or spell;):D.
Hope you have a lovely time at your brother's Holly:)
  • I am glad you have that initiative mrAP, :) so many sit back and wait for things to happen but they don`t happen and they get more and more lonely. It can`t be easy to make yourself get out there with new people. I stil remember my first nerve-wracking forays

I am sorted re food for the day. Just had fresh squeezed grapefruit and clementines and have prepared a root veg soup with leek, celery, ginger and cumin. Now I am going to prep the veg for the stir fry at lunch. I think I should achieve empty veg drawers by the end of tuesday
  • Apji - don't forget that bananas can be used for nice-cream. That being that lots of us use up bananas that have gone too ripe for our liking by removing skin and freezing. I freeze mine cut in 4 sections personally - as that's what I find works best.

Then haul out of freezer and blitz into a sorta icecream (hence "nice cream") with any fruits one wants/maybe a bit of coconut milk/top with anything you like (eg chocolate chips/nuts).

On that note - must head up the supermarket and stock up. Still working on finding an alternative to bread spread made of butter to put on toast. I've tried making my own out of stuff like coconut oil etc and bit of tumeric in for colour - not great and it went mouldy eventually. I recently bought Pure sunflower spread - as it hadnt got anything in I dont buy (like rapeseed oil for instance) and not struck on the taste. Will be finishing it up - but dont want to buy again.

I think I could land up having to stick to my usual spread - ie Yeo Valley Buttery & Spreadable - even if I land up giving up everything else dairy and/or with oil in - as I can't seem to find a suitable substitute.
  • I may have an old/new favourite, Jack Monroe's Creamy Salmon Pasta, as I have some quark to use up, I use this instead of yogurt sometimes, it is less economical, but given the extreme cheapness of the rest of the meal, it's hardly an extravagance.
You also have to watch that the yogurt doesn't go 'grainy' and spoil the texture , but the quark is more robust.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • I am stir frying an early lunch soon, I want a hedonistic afternoon, watching mansfield park and there are no adverts for getting to the kitchen. I also have a small zindafel in the fridge, I shall have that and chocolate. Bliss and no madding crowds :D

oh yes, I like quark, must get some when I eventually go shopping

Morning all, first day of normal weather, no rain, snow or frost, bit windy but mild

Breakfast was last 2 rashers in a sandwich, with standard issue brown sauce dressing

Lunch, no idea but thinking of summat on toast

Dinner, probably a gammon steak, I have a packet of two bought on offer a bit back from Lild and getting near the Use by date now, this would go with HM chips, fried eggs and grilled shriveled, manky looking LO tomatoes

    Money

Have you tried the Pure coconut one? Just asking, some say it tastes coconutty, no surprise there, so may be more to your taste?

Personally I can't taste any difference between the two but those with a more discerning palate seem to

  • I stepped on the scales this morning and I have gained weight. !!!!!!!:rotfl:

I think it might be that I'm drinking a lot of water and so maybe water weight. Oh, well.

I couldn't sleep last night (only 3 hours) and so went back to bed about 7 and had a lie-in and then a long, hot bath so only had breakfast about 11.30.

I had a fruit and soya milk smoothie and then a tortilla wrap with mashed avocado, tomatoes and coriander.

    Good afternoon everyone,
I finally got my turn in the shower:D, most chores are done for tonight and my son & his gf are in charge of the cooking:D:D.
I had a tasty brunch of egg & mushrooms on toast followed by a "proper" snooze so hopefully I'll not be wanting my bed by 9pm!
