I had to give myself a slap .... what if I couldn`t have .... intending to drive about 18 miles just to get bread for the freezer. Oh woe is me, I almost got swept along with all those christmas adverts on telly. ....
The trouble is, until the very moment you fancy something, you don't know what you'll fancy .... and it can be tempting to have everything in "just in case" you fancy something and "Xmas is spoiled" without it.
But 18 miles for bread is just a tad extreme0 -

yes, I gave myself a good talking to
I am now cooking sausages for a sandwich, split them open and will leave then alone to cook slowly, got the hp out already0 -
Off to Tesco in a minute and tossing up whether to try and buy "something special" to make up for that awful meal out yesterday.
Hmmm....I know the answer to the question of whether I can find a half bottle of champagne there or no? Wrong answer to that one:(.
Does anyone know whether their edamame beans are GM (genetically modified) or no? I like those beans - but, as they arent organic, then have distinct suspicions it's "Wrong answer" to that as well. Can't find anything from Tesco online that states either way....and so I play safe and don't buy them in case its "Wrong answer".0 -
Yesterday I put a chicken stew in the slow cooker and put enough for today in there as well. Anyhow, I lost power to the property for a few hours yesterday so had to take the slow cooker to a neighbour's house to cook. So it would have been rude not to have invited her to eat it with me. She did provide the mash though
.
So now I need to sort something out for dinner today. I've found some decent sausages in the freezer and I will have them, just with some mash and steamed veg. There is also a portion of onion gravy in the freezer so I will use that up.
I've just had scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast, and will have a cheese sandwich with some salad bits that need using up for lunch.0 -
Karcher- how about some port with your cheese? You only need a small glass ! And the bottle will last once open. Marks has a bottle for £8. At the moment.
My meal last night was delicious, not sure the flavour of soup, it could have been parsnip and pepper? With a bit of spice. It was salmon I'd ordered this time which came with a fondant potato and a good mix of veg. Followed by meringue with berries and cream. The only damper on the night was the bottle of rose I bought was the only bottle of the zinfandel, and when my friend went back for another she had to get the house rose, which they took back as it was awful! They came back with white which I found too dry and had to put lemonade in. Much of that got left.
We had a good time dancing ,so we drank plenty of water!!
I've just had my toast and I'm waiting for dgson to arrive, and I'll make his bacon egg,and sausage. Lunch will be sandwiches, probably ham salad.
Dinner today Is a joint of beef from the freezer. I've got carrots and broccoli, Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes and mash.
I will put a few slices in the gravy into the freezer, for dd2 on Xmas day as she doesn't like turkey.
Funnily enough she always said she didn't like turkey, so at Xmas we used to tell her it was chicken and she would eat it. But when she was pregnant, she went off all chicken even her beloved KFC! !!! So now she has to have beef!!
After the frost and freezing fog last night, it pouring with rain today, at least it will get rid of the ice spots!!! The paths were lethal last night.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -

Oh wort, you've got me thinking now , I do actually love Port but haven't had any for years due to the expense, but as you say, it will last.
I shall ponder that one thanks'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
Reading the Waitrose weekend paper I spotted recipe / method for Hasselback potatoes. Looks like an easy and fairly fuss free method, and would look a bit posher than oven chips
Has anyone made these? Waitrose looks identical to this method https://realfood.tesco.com/recipes/hasselback-potatoes.html
Simon on Sunday Brunch just did a hasselback butternut squash - looked very impressive too - I must remember that one when squash are on offer next time.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

Good morning everyone,
It's wet and miserable here though a bit warmer than it's been.
Toast and cheese spread has been consumed and numerous cuppas drank so I best get on with some chores. I'm expecting younger son home at some point today so I'll be mainly not CFOing until the New Year. Tonight we are having beef in gravy from the freezer with veg (possibly cauliflower cheese) and either mash or roasties. Sticky toffee pudding and custard for afters. Depending on what time he arrives we might get the tree up today:)0 -
I did a quick run to 4ldi when they opened, perchance some 30% off stickers for my favourite bread rolls - they had ONE pack reduced, so they were mine
Also grabbed some other (reduced) bread rolls and a pack of (reduced) small scones. So they're all destined for the freezer...
Bit annoyed at 4ldi that you can't find out what they sell (their website has some and mysupermarket has some, but there's no single place that has everything) - and I'd done a big round trip the other day for a "researched" spice at best price I could find .... only to spot, this morning, that 4ldi sell it! Bugg4h them. 49p/35g too, so "cheaper than" what I'd researched.
I'd gone in with one item at the top of my list - a particular type/flavour of mince pies.... I'd seen them the other week, I bought a box for somebody as I was going round there for my tea.... but, when I looked the other day for them they were sold out - and today they have none and not even an "empty space where we used to have them".... so maybe I "missed my went" on that oneLast year I only bought/spotted them as they'd clearly had trouble shifting them and had put them up for sale, at a reduced price, in a basket in the middle of an aisle so they were in abundance!
4ldi also have three flavours of Xmas stuffing - not showing on their website of course - and, in store, no price evident, but if L1dl's is anything to go by they'll be £1.19/pack. Almost fell into the trap of buying a box of "orange and cranberry" .... but realised I don't need it
Bought a ..... CHOCOLATE SANTA!!!!75p, which is 50p/100g, which isn't a bad price bearing in mind I did want one.
Had a look round 4ldi, they do the frozen turkey breast joints, so no need to rush .... they have Yorkshires, but I CBA to get them today ... but no hash browns (they had croquettes, but no hashes).
Next it was off to £land to try my luck - I wanted a 2nd plate. They had one, but it was the LAST one! So I had to get it, although I'd have liked to have pawed through 2-3 to compare and "pick the best one". They had the chocolate moulds - last/only one, so I got that too, so now I need to buy chocolate to make some tree decs0 -
Wet and windy here so not feeling as warm as it should with the wind chill factor. I'm hoping the forecasters have it right saying its supposed to dry up shortly, I haven't done much walking what with the snow & ice so really feel the need to get out for a good stretch of the legs.
I had a very uninspired cba kinda tea last night of fish fingers, oven chips and peas so I really need to get into the kitchen today and be a bit more creative with some of the leftovers and fridge contents that need using.
Had PB on toast and I've just noticed a bit of blue sky and a bit of sunshine so I'm going to get going while it lasts.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
