I bought some Christmas tree shaped crumpets, pack of 6, from Asda the other day. Nice and cheery for Christmas morning? :)

I've seen those in past years - to be honest I'm too tight to buy those :) Ditto for the giant ones.

I wait until the 35-36p ones have a 30% off sticker in L1dl/4ldi when I can ... and even in 4sda I'd be buying the 40p/pack ones...so to pay £1 for some pretty ones wouldn't work for me.... I'd rather stick to the 40p ones and pick up a bag of doughnuts to go with them to spend £1 or so :)

If it means anything last year I did nothing for Christmas 'special' food wise at all, it was a normal food day. I did half want to but health intervened.

However this year again I'll not be doing much special but I have promised myself something a bit different, whether that just be some roast potato's in beef dripping / goose fat / something else or such I'm not sure. For reasons I'd rather not go into, I'm not a big Christmas fan these days. Each to their own though obviously. :D

I do want a few slices of turkey though if I can, to be honest a few slices of cooked meat from the butcher (if he is doing cooked turkey slices this year) will be great alongside my usual 'collection' of things if nothing else comes to hand. I might see if I can find a couple of small 'drumsticks' or something though maybe. I'm quite averse to buying an '8 pack' though even if they are frozen and may last ages.

I'm still half debating on a small Christmas pudding too, I have not yet seen one locally surprisingly and the 'online shop' one did not have a good review at all, the large one did but it was (a) too large and (b) too much money :) , something will appear.

If it does not then I'll simply find a decent 'rich fruit' type cake/bar and a dollop of hot custard on it, it will be just as nice I'm sure. :D Failing that some apple crumble/mixed fruit cakes with said custard on will go down a treat I expect.

    Good evening everyone,
PN - and double  at the lemon zest

It is bitterly cold here -4C so far but no snow though we might get some overnight though I doubt it. Thankfully the worst of the cold snap is to be over by Tuesday.

I've had a right CBA day and I'm trying to pysch myself up to go and make my bed back up. I stripped it earlier so I will need to get this done. Someone definitely has pinched my get up and go today! Just as well I have already planned tonight's meal or no doubt it would end up being something quick/easy again:). I'm hoping when it warm's up a bit weather-wise I get my oomph back as I have a few things I want to get done this week.

I think it's important to do something, even "for one", to shake off the daily grind of "for one" .... and if you do something, it at least looks like SOMETHING different could happen ... maybe.
I will spend the day eating a lot of things that I wouldn't normally (well not all in one day :)).

I won't cook a roast dinner though, because I CBA just for me, and then there is all the washing up 'just for me' and I would prefer to have something easy and sprawl on the sofa with the remote instead.

I will probably make a moussaka on Christmas eve for Christmas day because it is my favourite meal, and thinking about it I will more than likely cook a chicken crown as well to have chicken and proper stuffing sandwiches, and with mashed potatoes and pickles on Boxing day. All nice and easy.

I have stollen, a chocolate and a chocolate and orange gateau as well as some New York and chocolate and vanilla Cheesecake, oh and some Dutch apple tarts in the freezer and will buy some cream, to go with which ever I fancy. So plenty of choice there.

I've also got a box of chocolate biscuits, and a tin of shortbread that I was given. I have bought myself a couple of boxes of truffles as well.

The other thing that I want to get is some better cheese than I would usually buy.

So I will have some nice food, just not anything that will take much effort.

Having just read this post back, it is clear that I'm going to use Christmas as an excuse to over indulge in cake, chocolate and cheese :D). Just as well it's only two days :).

I've got a great business idea..... this product, which costs "pennies" .... sells at £200 per Kg!!!

    £200 per Kg!!!!

    How much??? £200 per Kg!!!

But .... the basic ingredient costs "pennies".

    Yes .... £200 per Kg!!

What a great business to be in....

    :)
Click to discover your destiny: £200

And the base ingredient is only 36% of the end product.... so that's £500-600 per Kg for the base ingredient value!!

why would anyone want to pay for all that extra carp when they could buy a lemon and zest it?

I won't have much washing up - and a lot of stuff I'll either cook or prep before the day.... on the day I'll most just be orchestrating the food to the plate.

I'll cook the turkey on the day... SC out, turkey in, lid on, walk away for 5 hours. I had planned to make my own Yorkshire, but I'll have a huge jug of leftover batter if I do that, so I'll probably just buy a pack. Veg = all steamed together (fresh from the L1dl offers that week, 29p each I think). Roasties/similar will just be lobbed in the mini oven in the same dish. Nut roast would definitely have been cooked 1-2 days before, so that'd be a quick nuke.

Washing up will be a minimum .... and it doesn't need doing if you toss everything into a big bowl of water.

Well, as they say, "if you can't do it at Christmas then when can you do it... " so go for it. XFO = not having to sit neatly and dress smartly. Just a big Santa nightshirt and some big fluffy slippers is all you need.
  • Caron - general cba here today and if you get the energy to make your bed up - please do mine at the same time. When I change the bed - I leave the bedding off for some hours to give it a good airing and it must have had said airing by now.

Dinner just about ready now - managed to get myself to do that as per plan.

I've got a theory that one reason for particularly cba days is our bodies going into semi winter hibernation mode and taking us with them....

But then I've developed a very healthy/cynical suspicion about mine ever since the "change of life" - as it became absolutely crystal clear that a lot of what I had thought were my emotions and thoughts hadnt been at all by the look of it. They'd been hormones brought about by Mother Nature "doing her thing" regardless of my own personal wishes or feelings:o:mad::o. I'm so glad that most of my thoughts and emotions are safely my own these days iyswim.

Lid's do small ones, but not good value, slightly larger is not much more expensive which is what I would buy. Trouble with Xmas pud, you can't cook just half without a lot of faff

£land also have them, Jane Asher's, I've had those, but I bought mine in January at 25p;) Still one in the cupboard for this Christmas:T

Talking of buying in Jan, that was when I bought my cards, guess I'm not alone in that move:money:

Dinner was certainly a use it up meal, stew gone, soda bread gone, tea loaf gone, tomorrow starts another week of "what shall I eat?" OR CBA to prepare
