Asda was really fantastic for reduced today. Loads of pasta salads bagged salad and ready meals soup mix etc all at 5p but best of all these

at 25p instead of £3.40. I bought 10 for the freezer. a real treat as I love them but would never buy at full price.
Also as everything was so cheap decided to experiment by freezing a couple of tuna and sweetcorn and egg mayonnaise. wouldn't normally but worth 5p to try it.
Wow that's one heck of a bag of bargains, lucky you :T'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

I just treated myself to 2 poached eggs on one small piece of toast, yummy. It has taken me a lifetime to learn to make proper poached eggs in a pan of water  no looking back now
I have wooden steps in my garden, two sets and the bottom set of six were concerning me, supported on the right by wood that is screwed onto a large retaining wall made of breeze blocks. Stupid construction as the screws have channelled water through and the wooden support is rotten and the steps on that side are moving en masse. Slept on the problem, again and just done a temporary fix, ie slithered underneath and banged three bricks under that side, now feels secure and will do another winter at least. Arghh so much to think about, to keep up with house maintenance. Doing that also gave me a chance to think about future construction of new steps, which is a good thing. Got to do lots of outside wood preservation spraying this autumn, its always a battle with wood, against fungi mainly
Food, haha as it is a minor non-problem today, plenty of salad bits left and nice pud, well it is bank holiday. Tonight has to be rye crackers and peanut butter and celery stick, woke up with indigestion last night due to a bread snack too close to bedtime, that`ll teach me

I made two rounds of cheese/tomato sandwiches and one round of cheese/pickle. All made with pre-sliced emmental cheese.
Just ate the cheese/pickle ... underwhelmed. Sliced cheese doesn't go well with pickle, it HAS to be grated.
I bet I find the same with the cheese/tomato too.
Sunny/bright here, but not "hot"/scorching by any stretch of the imagination. Just "pleasantly summery"0 -

We always had a poaching pan when I was growing up, with metal inserts. As an adult I tried a more modern one with plastic inserts and that never seemed to work. I also felt constrained by the number of slots in a pan and how many eggs I was doing ... if doing one do you take all the other inserts out, or leave them in? Nuking's the way to go .... Good afternoon everyone,
It's a wet and miserable day here today:(
Poached eggs, if just me I tend to nuke them unless it's a duck egg which I find don't work so well in the microwave.
I need to spend some time in the kitchen today, I picked my fennel yesterday as it was bolting and waterlogged, I also want to pickle some white turnips and start my bramble vodka so that lot should keep me out of mischief.
We really enjoyed our turkey dinner last night and there was enough LO to make a fab turkey & stuffing sandwich for my lunch today. There's some scrappy bits of meat, bones and gravy left so that'll be turned into stock which will no doubt get used up this Christmas :rotfl::rotfl:
I'm sure about dinner tonight I've a sweet potato needing used so I'll probably do something with that. While the oven is on I want to roast some lamb ribs I have marinating in tandoori spice, lemon and yoghurt which I plan to have tomorrow in some LO curry sauce from the weekend.:)0 -

I am well over a lifetime, assuming 3 score & ten, but still have not mastered it. Guess it is like riding bikes, a struggle to start with but easy peasy once mastered. I still have my stabilisers on and just scramble the beggars now. I think at my wake I will demand Eggs Benedict all round, stand fast Vegans
Sound like those steps are going to just get worse, no doubt penny pinching by the builder, soft wood & not something expensive like oak / teak. Would chucking money at it and getting brick or concrete replacements do the trick?
You could have brick / concrete pillars with hardwood steps for instance. Or like my sons house, just railway sleepers, not the best aesthetically but certainly practical :money:
Warm & hazy sunny, more washing out and yet more apples to sort out
Breakfast was Jumbo oats, soaked overnight, still not got the liquid / oats ratio sorted yet as it was a bit sloppy and just turned into Vesuvius as I nuked it My normal ratio was 1 : 2, but may have to decrease the liquid with these Jumbo ones
Nothing worthwhile YS today, just topped up the Greek Yoghurt stash ready for stewed Apple fest later
Lunch was cold pork with HM apple chutney in 2 small wholemeal rolls
Then onto climbing apple mountain
Made a over a Kg of stewed apples, put some cinnamon in just to try it having seen it mentioned here somewhere
And then blackberry & apple jam making, 5 jars made, but two are destined for the cleaners in appeasement for the stove top jam spattered mess:o
Dinner must be LO Coronation chicken, sick of seeing it every time I open the fridge, with CBA Actifried frozen chips. Will have to replenish chips in Lidl tomorrowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Farway,
I don't actually measure out the milk for my porridge oats. I just fill my quarter cup measuring spoon with my jumbo oats from container and put those oats in a small bowl. I then cover those oats with sufficient milk to cover them and do the trick re soaking them. Put said bowl in fridge.
Next morning - out comes my bowl of soaked oats from the fridge and they get put in a standard size saucepan on my cooker and I add what seems, to my eye, to be a reasonable amount of milk to get the ratio I want, put the hotplate onto nearly full and it takes about 2 minutes (whilst I'm stirring it) to "come together" and be gently bubbling. Sometimes I might add a bit more milk to the oats a couple of times - taking it carefully so that it doesnt go too "liquid" for me.
So - maybe if you try cooking it on a hotplate, rather than in the microwave = that might do the trick for you?0 -
I took a little run out to L1dl .... just three items on the list as I intended to gather all the makings of a quick lemon cheesecakey thing.... so I needed digestives and milk. I also wanted to pick up some fizzy pop as I was going in there (so heavy/hate carrying it from the shelf to the till). And I also got chips, as I was out of those.
Trotted home .... and .... CBA to make a lemon cheesecake thing ... got all the stuff, so no excuses on the ingredients front .... but I have run out of Get-Up-And-Go.0 -

Evening all,
I'm having a hot and bothered CBA day today, so I haven't done any 'cooking' just putting cold things onto plates.
I just had a banana for breakfast because I had three that needed using up. I had one after lunch and will have another one this evening to get rid of them.
I took a tuna and mayo sandwich out with me when I went for a walk and to sit in the park this afternoon.
For dinner I've had the last of the chicken joint with some salad. I CBA to do the new potatoes to go with it so just had a couple of slices of bread. That's the last of the chicken now I was a bit bored with it tonight as it was the third day running that I've had it even though I did vary it a bit each day. Something totally different is called for tomorrow though. I'll see what I fancy in the morning.0
