I have recently reinstalled Windows 10 and Office 2007, and find that a couple of backed up XLSX files refuse to be saved.
Never had a problem saving Excel files before and not sure how the problem occurred. The files will open in Office 2007, but unable to save and edit as necessary.
Have looked on the net but become confused, and wondered whether anyone could suggest something straightforward that would help.
Thank you

Is the path for the files in the Trusted Locations?0

Might be easier, if you can, to copy and paste the contents into a new Excel document and saving a new copy. Obviously test this version works and functions properly before getting rid of the problematic version.0

Thanks for replies.
DoaM - not sure what you mean about trusted locations.
poppellerant - will see whether I can do this now.0 -
I copied and pasted text to a new workbook, and saved as 'Excel workbook'. But unfortunately I have the same problem as before.
Not sure whether it's any help, but the icon for the saved XLSX file shows the internet explorer 'e' symbol.
Would appreciate any further suggestions.0 -
Where are you trying to save the files to? Is it a location on your PC or the cloud?0

Le_Kirk I'm trying to save into an Excel worksheet which I keep in a folder on laptop desktop.0

What do you mean "trying to save into an Excel worksheet?" You can only Save to a location, i.e. a folder on your PC/laptop/USB stick or to the cloud. With Excel open, click on File and open Options, click on Trust Centre and open Trust Centre Settings. Then click on File Block Settings. There you can see all the different versions of Excel that you can decide if you want to allow them to be opened and saved. See if you have a spurious radio button active or you could click restore defaults.0

I'm trying to save into a folder on my laptop desktop, something I've done 100s of times with no problems. Until now!
I did as you suggested - opened Excel, clicked File, Open, but there are no Trust Centre or Trust Centre Settings, just general programmes and files on my PC.
Any further suggestions?0 -
You say that you can't save the file, but that the saved file has got the internet explorer 'e' symbol.
What exactly happens when you try to save the file? How do you know it's not saving? What if you select Save As... and choose a different filename?0 -
Thanks for replying.
Am using iPad at present, when back on laptop will try and post an image of file.
When I try to save file, something opens and closes again quickly. Underneath there seems to be another file. Will try and post image later as difficult to explain.
Have tried saving, re-naming, etc but nothing seems to work.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.0
