UKPC -Driver Parked in a retail carpark space which thought was a space

Hi all,
Wondering if you could help, I know someone that had a ticket from UKPC
the driver recently parked for a few minutes at a retail park, in a space which I believed was a parking space,
there is defined colored brickwork around the bay which defines a zone, perfect size for a car. and on the opposite side too as another car had clearly done the same thing, the driver didnt realize it was not.
It was an honest did not see this as when parking the driver was parking guess as they were drawn to the outline, not noticing the other bays.
they was in the shop for around a minute or two before they could see the parking attendant at
the car so they rushed out and apologized and explained It was an honest mistake incorrectly identifying it as a parking space because of the surroundings and markings, it looked like somewhere they could park, if they had known it was a non-parking space they would have not parked there.
He said the ticket had already been issues so there is nothing he could do. this was all in the space of a few minutes of arriving and going in to the shop for 1 min.
they have already sent an appeal with a picture but it states we will get back to you within 35 days
they dont want to be paying this as they feel its unfair that there was a zone defined which legitimatly looked like a space.

edit the above to remove any hint of who did what, never post information like that on a public forum
use these terms
THE DRIVER (parked etc)
THE KEEPER (received blah blah)
I hope you did not tell UKPC who was driving , or infer it either
the correct appeal is the one in blue from the NEWBIES sticky thread
after that you await their reply , typically within the 35 days
come back if you get a POPLA code
and complain to the landholder and demand a cancellation , as keeper
never mention who may have been driving0 -
Apologies,
It looks like they may have already said that in the appeal, if they have already appealed does that stop the discount timer on the fine? Its going to be argued as there was a defined line around the zone a car would fit.0 -
Who cares about the blinking bribe/discount, for Gawd's sake? £60 is not a bargain, stop looking at it as if it matters.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
Home»Motoring»Parking Tickets Fines & Parking - read the NEWBIES THREAD0 -
its not a "fine" either
Its an INVOICE
no PRIVATE PARKING COMPANY can "fine" YOU ,or ME , or THE QUEEN for that matter0 -
Does the signage / markings give any indication as to what the car-shaped space was for ? Was it hatched, had a wheelchair symbol, "pick up / deliveries only" etc. ?
The signage probably says something about only parking in marked bays, and "the driver" parked n a marked bay. Some parking bays, nearer to the business, are reserved for only very brief parking ; perhaps "the driver" believed that was the case.
It would also be interesting to know if the other car got a ticket ; maybe it was a decoy to mislead "the driver".0 -
The markings apparently are indication of an old tree planter which had been filled in with bricks, with grey bricks in the center where your car would be, and lighter reddish brickwork around the perimeter where a car would go, it was not a disabled space, or a loading bay.
they are not sure on the other car.
What does the driver do now the appeal was submitted?0 -
Await the outcome. Too late now to change from the driver to the keeper if the driver has sent an appeal
If it fails come back to the newbies FAQ thread for advice on a popla appeal and put it up here for comments0 -
This will hinge on pictures and signage. Get both and post here.0

The driver has a picture of the car parked in the marked bay, but not of signage, would it be safe to post here marking out reg numbers?
They don't have any pictures of signs but if need be can go back.
Can anyone confirm if the discounter timer stops when appeal has been submitted?0 -
discounter timer?
the early payment discount is a gimmick designed to pressure people into paying. From the Plain Language Commission:
