  • The cleaner quit????

    Oh man, that would have sent me over the edge and your month has been way more stressful than mine.

    Well done and onwards into a calmer March.

    You certainly fitted a lot in in the shortest month of the year! Great news about DD1's internship, but pity about holiday.

    Pity about the party hire, but as you say, chalk it up to experience and move on.

    Agree with wishing about a calmer March!

    I know :eek::eek::eek:! OH has lined another up another cleaner - a recommendation from a friend, but she is sick today so will come next week instead.

    Thanks Vix, I had a much calmer week at work and am sticking to my days this week and for the foreseeable.

    Thanks GreenT! Interview next week, bought an outfit for £4 (love my local 0xfam!) and have some cheap items from H&M on the way too.

    In other news:
    *Going to trial a four hour clean once a fortnight rather than three hours a week. Hoping for a better deep clean and it will take our monthly cleaning costs down to £87 a month instead of £156. We are looking to change our carpets to non-wool later this year as they are badly moth damaged, and we will have less of an issue leaving them for a bit longer.
    * Airport parking booked for Easter hol for £80 plus £14 cashback
    * £17 of money off vouchers used in shop on weekend + free coffee and Sat paper
    * DVD player broken by kids :mad: Found basic Sony one as new from amaz0n warehouse for £18.45 :money:
    * have returned all my Postal $marts, I was overwhelmed by the Postal survey work and am glad to come off the panel. For a tenner a month in stamps the daily admin wasn't worth it. I tried and am learning what I am (and am not) willing to do for extra cash!
    * found the right colour paint for our kitchen :j
    * Completed 2 sets of expense claims :j £720 due back :beer:
    *Received a betty b0x for free for me and DD1 (worth £12.99 each :eek:). They are lovely.
    * Did free meditation workshop at work
    * Have used headspace app every day for last week :j

    Can't believe how quickly the last week has gone! I've been really struggling with tiredness in the mornings and was very unwell on the way to work on Weds. But I've got through the worst of it.

    I'm very disappointed with myself as bought a £4 item I didn't need to get the full refund, now it has disappeared along with the receipt :mad:. I suspect DD1 helped herself without asking. Complete waste of time and money. I now resolve that I can only buy things for cashback if I claim for them at the time of purchase.

    In other news:
    * new cleaner started yesterday and seems excellent.
    * freezer stocked with good quality reduced meats, 60-75% off. Should be enough to last us til we go away
    * train tickets returned for refund
    * free health check via work yesterday, all very good except raised cholesterol, due to diet. Dr not worried but made me realise I probably shouldn't go too crazy with the cream and butter
    * weight loss stalled, keep having the odd square of dark chocolate and not drinking enough water or taking supplements. Need to recommit and refocus on this as still want to lose another half a stone or so. Think I'm getting complacent.
    * off for the weekend so OH can redecorate the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom :eek:! We've started stripping the walls and realised just how filthy our house :o I definitely didn't budget enough for paint, but we are doing it all ourselves so can't see how could have done it much cheaper. We could have not bought F&B paint but having lived with the last decor for 10 years think it is worth paying the extra
    * Emptied junk from laundry basket (hidden from sort of DS room)
    * Cleaned and sorted junk drawer
    * Cleaned cutlery drawer
    * listed 2 items on fleabay
    * few spends on household items - new drying rack as last two totally bust; a really useful box to store our wrapping paper away
    * DD1 had interview and will hear back today about internship programme
    * have read one book on self care and started a second
    * enjoying free digital book from library app (Reservoir 13, if anyone has read it?)

    Today's ta dahhh list:
    * sort and put away laundry
    * pack for trip
    * sort backpack/ day bag
    * pack entertainment and snacks for kids to reduce spends
    * boil some eggs for journey
    * look for museum pass
    * post bday card to DSis

    Thanks wish, I'm off again today and trying not to get frustrated. I have lots I'd like to wrap up at work before I go on leave at the end of next week.

    I've updated YNAB as it got quite out of kilter the beginning of the year due to busy work project. And it shows we weren't keeping an eye on it! Accounts more or less balanced but quite a few overspends which means we have to pay extra into our savings pots each month going forward now.

    The worst is the redecorating, I think I estimated about £600 but we are already over a thousand :eek: and I have another £150ish to put through. I'm trying to be positive - downstairs is already transformed, a lot lighter and more spacious; we did all the painting ourselves; we brought forward costs by buying new dining set; we will get another year or two out of our kitchen; we also are repainting the bathroom which I wasn't expecting this round... But still it feels like a LOT of money.
