I have very an important for myself qusetion and i really hope someone could give me the rightanswer.I will travel with my car from Newcastle to London which distance is around 280 miles and i have only 3 quid in my debit card, of course i have some cash for food, drinks etc. but my question is am i gonna be able to full my tank at the begining of my trip and then when i am closer to London after probably 5 hours i will run out of fuel so my real question is am i gonna be able to fill the tank for a second time as some of you said that i need only 1 quid for the transaction which makes 2 quid for 2 transactions?

What will you do if the pay at pump isn't working? If you knowingly take fuel you don't have the funds for, you could find yourself in a lot of trouble.

I'm a bit puzzled as to how someone who 'budgets carefully' doesn't notice that a significant sum (£50?) hasn't disappeared from their account two months after the transaction. How often do you reconcile bank statements against your own records? How could you miss this?

Not trying to be critical, just curious.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

It could work out to be a very expensive short term loan - check what the costs are for an unauthorised overdraft at your bank.

The other problem with the strategy is not actually knowing when the payment will be applied. For example, if the driver is travelling in the evening they might end up having the first payment processed in the Tesco payment and then get rejected as the card company detect that the debit card is being operated outside its terms and conditions.

Just get on the train and hide in the toilets. Then you've got £2 on your card for a cup of tea.
  • The thing is that i need to go with my car in London and i do have cash money which i need for more important reason, i was just thinking i could use the "short term loan" trick twice, i really appreciate that you are trying to help me guys but i do know the best solution for my problem and i only need to know if somebody have been used the pay at pump fill full tank with a few quids on the account for 2 or more times a day, thanks

You really need to do better financial planning. You are borderline bilking. You know you don't have the funds to pay for what you are taking. What happens if the pay at pumps are out of action and you have to use the normal pumps. What will you do then? Why do you need to not use the money you do have for fuel, rather than wait until you do have the funds to pay for it?
  • If you fill up and find out you can't pay you then leave your name & address and promise to come back and pay later. Even if you don't come back it's a a civil matter an all they can do is send the debt collectors onto you. Police won't be interested unless it was a drive off.
  • If the pay at pumps are out of action i will use my cash of course which i am hardly trying to avoid for the simple reason that the money i have at the moment need to be spend for something else and don"t ask me what is it please, i will repeat myself i do know the best solution for my problem and i only need to know if somebody have been used the pay at pump fill full tank with a few quids on the account for 2 or more times a day, thanks
  • I've used pay at pump loads of times when there has only been a few pounds on my card but never more than once in a day.

Used to do it years ago as my main bank account debit card at the time didn't work at pay&pump, so I would use a secondary bank account that did then transfer the money over that evening.

As long as you have more than £2 on the card is should work as they only auth £1 at a time. Also use a different retailer e.g use Tesco first then Asda on the second time, etc.

If you go in with intent, it becomes something different from just being 'caught short' of money.

I used to be a retail manager. The person that succeeded me as a store manager when I moved to a different store was caught raiding the safe and had been replacing the money after he was paid. Guess what? He was sacked and taken to court and convicted for theft. The fact that he was repaying it was irrelevant.

if you take goods you know you don't have the money for, that is theft. Last time I looked, that was a criminal offence.
