Tesco pay at pump debit delay

Hello.

This is my first post on the forum so be kind! Not sure if this is the right section so forgive me if it's not.

On checking our bank account this evening we noticed a transaction with todays date and the description "Tesco pfs 3887 on 19th May 2017" we have narrowed this down to being our local Tesco petrol station and the value is around the price of a normal fill up. What's worrying us is that the money has come out of the account 2 months later!

We have a moderate income but with 3 kids we always try and budget carefully. We had assumed that the money would be coming out straight away.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is it normal? And is it worth a complaint to Tesco?

Be interesting to hear others thoughts

Thanks.

Will.

    Did they charge you twice?

If not I can't see what there is to complain about.

Ive had regular shopping bills come out on a Wednesday/Thursday when the shopping was done at the weekend.

If you budget carefully you should have noticed the extra money within 2 weeks or at the end of the month.

  • No they haven't charged us twice. The complaint would be the fact we paid on debit card and the money didn't leave our account for 2 months! Personally I think that's a little unreasonable!

They have up to six months to take the money without contacting you. On the bright side you've had the use of it for an extra two months.

Avoid this by paying at the kiosk, that way the full amount is reserved straight away rather than the £1 that the pay at pump reserves.

Mind you, I can remember a time when Asda's pay at the pump provided a very useful, interest free, payday loan in the last couple of days of the month :)

    Better on a banking forum?
  • Delayed debiting is fairly common for pay at pump transactions, although two months is rather extreme. I've witnessed a typical time lag of 3 - 5 days at our local Morrisons, which has caught my teenage daughters out with their own budgeting (and they too now always pay at the kiosk).

So you paid for the fuel you had, no more - just a bit late - and you wonder if it's worth complaining? Why? What do you WANT from your complaint? Them to shrug and apologise, or some form of comp-en-SAAAAAAY-shun? For what?

They still do! regularly fill up about £40 a week before payday. I have an unofficial £50 buffer on my current account - does help a lot.
