There are some very sad finds on this thread.

When we moved about 19 years ago, we found a signed photograph of Michael Barrymore in the loft!!!! It took pride of place at our house warming / bad taste party. The whole house was pink when we moved in:eek:
PS - the bathroom still is.

When we bought a BTL in a probate sale,we inherited all sorts of stuff. Furniture, Dyson, steam cleaner, photos, bank statements etc even car keys but no car!. Also a cuddly lion, which I have kept as I collect teddy bears. When visiting our tenant when she moved in she had the same lion on a shelf in her bedroom!

Resurecting this thread, apparently our vendor has left us a grass snake living in the compost/garden waste bin. I did say to the solicitor I thought we were supposed to have vacant possession......

  • Hey, We moved 2 weeks ago and I can contribute to this thread in force. When we emptied our old house we left a couple of things behind that we couldn't fit in the bin that maybe the buyers could use like some rickety garden furniture and also a couple of boxes of unopened boxes of floor tiles that I couldn't be bothered getting down from the loft. Apart from a couple of things our house was entirely empty...

Then we moved into our new house and I don't know what they were doing when they were packing. First thing was that they left 3 mountain bikes behind in the shed. Unfortunately it turns out that they didn't have any room in the removal van for them but the removal men had claimed them and this was written in a note to us. We hoped they'd forget but they came round for them last weekend.

Anyway, apart from that we have found quite a lot of useful stuff that they didn't take: Scrabble game, chess set, book of stamps, unopened extension lead. I found a booze cupboard with a few half drunk bottles in it, not sure if I'll drink those or pour them down the sink though.

After a bit of further investigation though I found a cupboard in the study that they mustn't have even touched when it came to packing that is full of personal stuff. Firstly there's loads of photo albums dating back to the early 90's as far as i can tell. There's also some school work that has been saved from their kids from about 10 years ago from what I can tell.

I think I'll pack up these personal things and try to get it to them.

I haven't been up in the loft yet but I dread to think what I'm going to find. It's quite a big house and they had to leave in a hurry, I think they were a family of 5 and some things must have been overlooked but there really has been loads of stuff left behind. Bizarre.

  • Someone would have got a lot of great stuff left behind when my mum sold her garage/lock up. She didn't use it and i asked if i could use it to store my things including furniture etc, household stuff etc, gifts that I'd been given, whilst i was away travelling for 6 months. The garage itself wasn't in great condition but i had covered the things up well and so i didn't mind that. She said it was fine and i asked her if she had any plans to sell and she said she didn't but would let me know if so. Next thing i hear on the family grapevine is that she's sold it three months prior to me finding out! When i said i had my stuff in there, she replied, well you need to let it go sometime! I was so annoyed with her after that and still am.
  • Some interesting reads here 😂. When I moved into my last place I explored the attic and found some traffic lights!! I don't even know how they got them up there, they were so huge

When we moved in to our rented apartment we found a mouse trap under the sofa - odd as we are on the 15th floor!!! No mouse in the trap and no sign of one... so far....
  • A press for making false teeth.

A neighbour used to buy cars, pull them to bits, then get bored with them, so when he moved out the new neighbour had the joy of digging up all the engines that were buried in the back garden.
