Ryanair Baggage labels - do you now have to DIY at the airport?

Hi all
I spoke to someone briefly the other day who said they have recently flown with Ryanair (I'm 95% sure that's who she said the airliner was) and they had to use a self service system to print their luggage labels. It resulted in queues, confusion, and ultimately missing their flight. But that's another story...
...I am flying with Ryanair next month and so was hoping to find out more about this. A quick google has not turned up anything so I wondered if any frequent flyers here have more details? Unfortunately we were both in a rush and therefore unable to discuss it at any length.
Many thanks
Max

Which airport?
These kind of machines aren't that difficult to use, just remember to keep the baggage receipt.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Again, I cannot be 100%, but I think she said Stansted.
Do these machines have a name? What can I google to find out more about them?
Thanks for the reply0 -

Easyjet have them at Gatwick. No massive queues and very simple to use.0 -
Used the label machine at Leeds Bradford last month. Queues and confusion you say? All you have to do is scan your boarding pass!!!0

I haven't used them for Ryanair but I have used them in the USA and Europe with other airlines and it's so much quicker than waiting for a desk!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

These are the same kind of people that use the passport e-gates and complain when it doesn't work for them.
Not that it had anything to do with them putting their passport in upside down, despite there being guides all over the place showing you how to do it correctly!0 -
Well, that's all very encouraging and pleasing to hear
I don't want to put words into her mouth. So when I next see her I'll ask for more details and update here. Perhaps there was a problem with the machine? Or perhaps it was just people being useless? Or something else maybe...

Used these in Australia and New Zealand. Nothing to it, don't worry.0

Birmingham has them for flybe. Think they have some new ones for other airlines too but no idea if that includes Ryanair or not. Found them very easy to use, and there was staff on hand to assist people if need be. There was also a manned desk should it be needed.
This type of technology will only become more commonplace. ATMs, self serve checkouts, self serve petrol stations, e-passport auto gates etc etc0
