    Eh?

He's fully aware of it. There are no lies or omissions. It's simply the case that they won't be coming because he doesn't want to - even though she would really like to be there. And we are talking about a birthday meal - nothing outrageous

Whoops sorry , misread your post - full retraction
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

I'd say its not infidelity but its still wrong. To be spending time flirting with someone is disrespectful and if it hurts your partners feelings and you continue that's just cruel. I'd be worried its only a matter of time before they arrange to meet and then the result really could be the end of the relationship. Would he be OK with his wife doing the same?

It would be cheating in my eyes, plus from personal experience it very rarely stops at flirty messages. My ex was at it all the time talking to people behind my back (on dating websites etc and there was someone at work) that eventually advanced to meeting up.

My bf is very open about whpo he talks to, i dont ask him to be as i trust him but he chooses to share that with me. I have access to his phone/facebook but i have no interest in looking as i trust him and hes left it open and visable before so not acting like he has something to hide (ex on the other hand went as far as always taking his phone with him, even to the loo)
