Is my ISP lying to me???

Hi, i'm with AOL Broadband. Have been for years. Its only 1 MB, good enough for me until i started to download recently.
AOL sent their customers emails saying that they're going to upgrade us all to 2MB as an early Christmas present. I never have.

When i spoke to an agent he told me that my line does not support the speed. When i was emailing Moneysupermarket.com, the Broaband expert he said i was about 2 miles from the exchange. Are AOL correct. How do i know what my line supports??

Thank you

Answer from that link is as follows, Thank you

ADSL is available in your arealg_green.gifYour exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 6.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

    Standard ADSL RAG results:
    lg_green.gifYou can receive 2Mbps ADSLlg_green.gifYou can receive 1Mbps ADSLlg_green.gifYou can receive 512Kbps ADSLlg_green.gifYou can receive 256Kbps ADSL
You are approximately 1.16km from the exchange (straight line distance).

    So, they are lying

Is your exchange LLU for AOL?

I was in this situation and became fed up waiting for the 'upgrade' to 2MB, my exchange isn't LLU for AOL but as soon as I asked for the MAC code to leave, I was transferred to someone who then offered Platinum for the same price. Consider giving it a try if you don't have any luck with the upgrade :)

Go to the samknows site and see if your exchange has any LLU ISP's i.e. AOL.

I was told that I could get 8meg on my line... Despite being 3 miles from the exchange! Lol!

TBH I'm amazed at how many people are still with AOL since "The Takeover". I've only ever used them for Dial-up, so know nothing of their Broadband, except they were allowing unlimited downloads prior to "The Takeover"! I'm assuming everyone's been capped/throttled now?

Anyway, I'm with adsl24 and I can recommend their 30/300 package at £19.99 per month! :)

Edit: Whoa, just checked AOL for ref: £19.99 a month for 40GB usage allowance? It's defiantly changed since I considered moving to them!
