Post Offices and Marks and Spencer debit cards

I understand Marks and Spencer's bank is part of the HSBC group. HSBC customers can use debit cards at Post Offices to withdraw cash but not Marks and Spencer customers. Seems a bit of an anomaly. Have tried suggesting a change of policy to Marks and Spencer banking customer services but no change as yet.

I know the M&S card works at the Post Office cash point here. I have not tried it in store.

Well of course it does, Post Office ATMs, run by Bank of Ireland, are part of the Link network so pretty much every card issued in the UK affiliated with either VISA or Mastercard will work. But it has no relevance to the OP's point (although I'm not really sure why it's on this board anyway, it seems more of a Vent than anything else).

Yes M&S Bank are a division of HSBC bank as is First Direct. However, they all have different terms, products, banking apps etc and you can't assume that one division has the same benefits as another.

The Post Office website helpfully lists exactly which banking services it supports per banking brand at http://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-banking-services#tab-1 so, although there is sometimes an expectation of one-size-fits-all they do differentiate....

If cash withdrawal at post office counters is important to you then there are many other banks that allow this, but unfortunately M&S isn't one of them!
