I love Dawn's attitude to use by dates, etc :D

The new dishwasher is humming along nicely, it's nowhere near as noisy as the old one, I thought it was broken! I'm really pleased with it and it was their cheap range too.

Appointment is set up for the opticians on Friday, the girl who answered the phone at Vision Xpress was so rubbish that I'm going back to SS. I wish I'd been mystery shopping.

I spent a good hour on the phone to Apple this afternoon (they were paying :rotfl: ) attempting to update the OS on my Mac. DS has been badgering me for ages because a lot of the games he plays no longer work on the old OS but I was worried I'd lose my Adobe CS but it's all fine and the update was free :)

I still need to ring Santander to sort another mortgage fix and Sky to discuss my deal which is now out of contract.

I was pleased with the YS run tonight as I managed to get a cauliflower (roast tomorrow now!), two packs of grapes and two lush-looking raspberry and almond tarts. Unfortunately the tarts are really disappointing, I'm glad I didn't pay £4.20 for them! I also got a couple of their lovely turkey, emmental, avocado and pickle bagels (they taste better than they sound!) and a pack of crumpets so all meals for tomorrow are sorted.

Dinner tonight was the salami and courgette pasta using one of my glut of courgettes, I'm definitely only growing one plant next year! There's enough left over to freeze for another meal later in the week
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

    December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.10

This is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string?' type question I'm afraid PF.
IF the jam has set really well, and it is well sealed, it will keep for years (good job some of mine doesn't have use by dates on it :o). If it is a bit runny / not set that well (meaning it still has quite a high water content), it will start to go mouldy quite soon, so use it up quickly. If it does go mouldy, it will only be the top, so just scrape it off  It is fine in the cupboard (if it is coolish and dark) unless it is the low sugar type of jam that needs to be kept in the fridge. Mine stores in the under the stairs pantry. If I get the odd batch that doesn't set well (we all get them occasionally) I keep it in the fridge and use up soonest. I generally make only quite small batches. For some fruit I use jam sugar now to ensure a good set.

You can tell if it starts to go off - it will either go mouldy (see above) or ferment, in which case it smells and tastes unpleasant and the only answer is to throw it out. But usually it doesn't :) If it looks and smells fine, it is, the sugar preserves it, and it won't poison you however long you keep it :D

Thanks Dawn I used jam sugar and it's a fairly thick set so I think I'll be ok. Just wanted to check as I've used recycled jars, although I did put them in the oven first. If this is the case I'll make some more if I find some ys fruit or it's cheap on the market - it's so much nicer than shop bought.

Good day all round, although had to work, so I'll ignore that bit. Done all of my annual books for small biz that I can manage tonight after printing some stuff at work. Just my one recipe book I've left at work that I need to complete the job, will collect on Wednesday. I can then do my partnership and tax return and DH. Hoping to get it all done and sorted in July this year, so far so good.

Had lasagne for tea, wth LO crumble. Stock out of freezer for risotto tomorrow, will get a pork steak out tomorrow and that can go in sc on Wednesday. Reasonable day everywhere.

    Lovely to *see* you bob

:o Honed by many years of producing our own food - just home cooking, preserving, veggies and fruit now, but in the past we have done meat, eggs and dairy produce too..... and none of it came with use by dates :rotfl: Seriously though, I am actually very careful .... I used to teach microbiology
Well, today's hospital appointment came and went, and to my relief it looks as if my recent illness and the 'liver issues' raised by my recent blood tests are down to a duff gall bladder, which will probably have to come out - it could have been much worse  Hopefully the other issues, which will find me in a different department of a different hospital later this month will have a similar fairly straightforward fix!

Nice to 'see' Bob - sorry to hear that things aren't great at the moment, hope it improves very soon :(

    Hi gang

Purps - thanks - I'll check out Mrs Frugalwoods. ;)

I'm using public transport to get to work this week, which includes about 35 min of walking each way at either end of the stop. Keeping me healthy and I noticed I didn't want to buy ANYTHING at lunch because I didn't want to carry it all the way home. Result!

Today is veg man day so I'm not sure how that'll work... Maybe I will get OH to pick me up this evening... :p Best laid plans!

I'm usually leaving the house at this time but with new public transport regime I don't need to leave until 8.15 - it's great! All that extra sleep!

Going to sort YNAB just now while drinking a cheapo coffee (Percol's version for nespresso is completely compostible too...)

Work is busy but still enjoy it and still crossing my fingeroonies for a bonus! It will be particularly good this year for the first time because I have paid off my student loan so the first chunk won't be going to them like last year! :D

    Right, offskies!

    Happy Tuesday!

Still flagging a bit after a hectic weekend, and it has started off a busy week, very behind on paperwork so that is the plan for today along with a meeting tonight that i have done no planning for:o
Banking all checked, D.debits up to date.
    Spends book just updated.
foxgloves great to hear about the 2 Christmas presents, I love my Christmas planning with always the ultimate challenge of Christmas on a budget:T
FVD the YS crown is firmly yours, esp after the haul u got last night:). Mr T had raspberries down from £2 to 20p. DD managed to get 2 decent packs, but said that Mr T didn't care and squashed the packs so much that there was raspberry juice everywhere and a whole lot of raspberries wasted:mad: so frustrating.
Having to guide DD with just bec it is YS, if we are not going to use it quick enough or no room in the freezer, then there is no point in buying it. Had to throw some YS bread away today as just didnt get chance to use it all.
Off to do some cat cleaning and then paperwork beckons-oh the joys:rotfl::rotfl:
Have a great day everyone x
