When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning all
Thanks for starting us off DNMS - sounds as though you have a full day planned
I have the first of my hospital appointments todaybut it isn't till 5pm, and I really want to get some things done before then:
Wash hair and let dry naturally (as if I would do anything else :rotfl:)
Dog walk
Sort fridge and freeze anything that needs it (this has been on my list for at least 2 days now)
Go to sales unit to top up - it is payday too - not expecting much as I have been unwell for quite a bit of this last month, and unable to put the necessary work in to changing stock, topping up and keeping my unit looking inviting. No ebay sales either (ended listings) so a lean month all round. Still, can't be helped.
Need a few items at the supermarket, will take a list and stick to it!
No food after 11am for my 5pm appointment, so I will be starving - but also saving, right?0 -

Morning all :hello: hope the appointment goes ok Dawn enjoy your day determined sounds lovely. I've decided to go to the office today and not WFH. After logging in last night ther appears to be loads of niggly things that need fixing after my week away so easier to do in person than trying to catch people on the phone. I'll WFH tomorrow instead. Someone aske don yesterday's thread about mrs FW , sorry I can't remember who La E maybe - it's Mrs Frugalwoods, she has a blog about all things frugal, some of her things are quite extreme, but I admire her attitude and plans and it's a good read.
Today's plans:
Check banking, lots of DD gone out, so updated spreadsheet
Check surveys and FPL
Moved small dividend pay,net and £co cashback to savings
Beans and rice I made yesterday for lunch, with raspberries we picked from pyo as a snack
Hot drink for commute and bottle of water so not tempted to buy a cup of tea this afternoon
Tea will be lasagne I made yesterday whilst coooking a roast
Quick shower using free timer from water board, hair dry naturally
Label my hm jam (anyone help with how long it lasts for once made? Also is it ok to keep in cupboard until I use it?)
Write some July goals tonight
Enjoy your day folks. Purps.0 -
Morning
Small things for today.
1. Sent son to school with a cake I had in the freezer, for the bake sale.
2. Remembered to put some money (£2) out of the change cup in his bag to buy cakes at pick up, I never have cash so he wont be disappointed now.
3. Checked banking. Priority payments covered. But we are really in the hole this month.
4. Washing on, line dry later. After 3 weeks without a washing machine it was finally fixed on Thursday. Domestic and general are utter schysters!
5. Double up with OH on travel card (in our case contactless cash card now) we both use it as one of us does the morning school run and one the afternoon. Daily saving £3-£4.50
6. Try and get some time with DH to discuss money for the month (or lack thereof)
7. Need to plan some kind of outfit for sons fancy school ceremony thing this weekend. I have literally no decent shoes, tights, etc. Cant remember the last time I didnt just get up, put on leggings, trainers and whatever top was clean.
8. Recycling out
9. Consider whether we could actually manage our shop somewhere cheaper from a practical point of view. Sadly neither Lidl or Aldi are within walking distance, and the time to do the shopping, particularly with a small toddler in tow, is not easily found.
10. Post a thank you note.
Have a good day.

Morning all, good luck with the appointment, Dawn
The new dishwasher arrived at 8.30am and is all installed and running through a clear cycle as we speak. I need to read the instructions and check through the cupboard to see whether I already have salt and detergent for it. I'm so glad they came early
Today is my day for making lots of phone calls to organise the rest of my week off, so ring:
Opticians
Boiler service
Santander
Go to local GP to collect forms to switch doctors.
More clothes washing.
Run a load in the new dishwasher
Toast for breakfast with the last of last night's lovely bread.
Courgette and salami pasta for dinner, I just need to buy salami, I have everything else. The next time I make this my own yellow variety cherry tomatoes should be ready(The original recipe some 20 years ago called for sun gold cherry tomatoes but I can't always get them.)
Quick bath and dry hair naturally, this is not a good look as I prefer to straighten it but I'm past caring :rotfl:Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -

Morning all,
I'm back from our lovely break away in Crete. The hotel was amazing, only issue was the cancelled flight one the way backTerrible 24 hours spent at the airport and overnight in alternative hotel before heading home on a plane with no food and hardly any drinks. But we're home and had a fab time.
I seriously need to get back into the Money Saving ways again and tighten the purse strings.
Today I need to -
* Get as much washing done as possible and hung outside so it can dry
* Get in a workout as I've out on 3lbs being away so time to eat healthy again!
* Pop to local shops for dinner bits tonight
* Get in a walk later around the park
* Move left over holiday money back into pounds and put that towards DS prom suit he needs
* Mop the floors
Enjoy your day everyone!0 -

This is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string?' type question I'm afraid PF.
IF the jam has set really well, and it is well sealed, it will keep for years (good job some of mine doesn't have use by dates on it). If it is a bit runny / not set that well (meaning it still has quite a high water content), it will start to go mouldy quite soon, so use it up quickly. If it does go mouldy, it will only be the top, so just scrape it off  It is fine in the cupboard (if it is coolish and dark) unless it is the low sugar type of jam that needs to be kept in the fridge. Mine stores in the under the stairs pantry. If I get the odd batch that doesn't set well (we all get them occasionally) I keep it in the fridge and use up soonest. I generally make only quite small batches. For some fruit I use jam sugar now to ensure a good set.
You can tell if it starts to go off - it will either go mouldy (see above) or ferment, in which case it smells and tastes unpleasant and the only answer is to throw it out. But usually it doesn'tIf it looks and smells fine, it is, the sugar preserves it, and it won't poison you however long you keep it
