hi my oh works as a pipefitter and is constantly having his work changed he is supose to be on bonus so every job they finish on time they get extra but he has never been paid bonus as they promised they would they add more and more to the job so it is imposable to finish on time

also they change his working week from 38 hours to 45 hours per week but dont pay overtime rates for the extra 7 hours (again this was promised) when challange by this he is just told if you dont like it get another job there lots of people queeing for his kind of work

it has nothing to do with the walk over attitude its simple dont work dont get paid you must be able to aford to lose four days pay or you wouldnt be able to strike im not getting at you personal but you cant keep striking just because you arnt getting what you were promised as i said before there must be other route you can try like refusing to deliver the leaflets untill your happy with your pay instaed of out and out striking
Earwig i really cannot afford to lose 4 days pay,my OH & I are over £30k in debt, but it's either that or go to work for £35 a week less than i am getting now. Most posties will tell you that they would accept a 2.5% rise, but with the strings attached to this rise we will be worse off financially. We aren't being greedy,we just want a fair deal. The leaflets is just one example. Other examples include taking parts of other rounds for nothing on top of our own, which we currently get paid overtime for.

If they agree to the strikers terms, then their costs will go up and this will probably be passed on to consumers. As it is, RM are not competitive when it comes to large parcels. If there were a private sector alternative for letters and small packets, RM might not be able to compete ?

    Opinions ?

Letters & packets will go up sooner or later rail.link, whether we strike or not. RM will be taking on more contracts from leafleting companies & not paying it's workers for delivering them,so will be making millions through this. I could go on all day about my side of the argument, but all i can say is that i am proud that i have stood by my fellow workers during this dispute & not lay down & been walked over.

look i can understand your point but strike only effects us its our letters ect that you are not deliverying what about poeples benefits what get paid by giro in the post some people will be missing out on their money because of it and that is somthing no matter how big the cause is is just not accpectable in this day and age you are holding us the public to ramson but not delivering our mail and that is why i and many others dont suport your strike

how will you feel if rm losses money over this and you have to be made reduntant because of this and then you will be on benefits alot worse of than your 35 per week pay cut woudnt you wish that you just keept the job you have now how much dose you average postie earn a month anyway is it really that bad a paid job even with the pay cut
i cant slow down i wont be waiting for you i cant stop now because im dancing

Well don't deliver any effing leaflets if you asked the public we don't want junk through our doors, saves you a walk you can get home quicker.

I have been waiting for a pay review and restructure 3 years, we let people discuss it work it out and then its implemented.

Can't believe its a strike over !!!!!!!g leaflet drops none of us want and are bad for the environment! Also if you don't want the job you don't sign the contract you don't sign it then buffer for more.

As for pensions industry wide there are problems and all companies are having to compromise and offer less it happens with us all.

I hope they loose lots of contracts and we get competition into the postal system so we cannot be held to ransome again - queens workers should not be allowed to strike - actually no one should its an old fashioned out of date blackmail device.

I work in a business that relies on postal system for bulk of orders to go.

It is not just individuals that are being hit but business as well.

But we had some post as home as not all postal workers are striking. I was told there was 6 people working in my local sorting office and that was for sorting and deliveries

For sending letters the prices are very good. But parcels over a certain size and weight are cheaper to go via carriers.

I agree that everyone should be paid a fair wage for what they do. But the problem is action like this does nothing but turn people against the posties. And people will seek an alternative thus making less going via royal mail prices will go up again thus people don't use them again. Catch 22.

    Yours

    Calley

The leaflets is just one example rayday,if we don't deliver them we will get sacked. I would rather work to rule & i'm sorry that people are p****d off about it. But if Royal Mail win this the postal service will be alot worse than it already is. Think about it, three or four years ago we all received our post between 7 & 10,so most of us received anything of importance before we went to work(well not me as i would have already have been at work)!. Now we receive it between 8.30AM & 1PM & as from next week we are starting our rounds later so we won't receive it until at least 10AM. Royal Mail are completely disregarding the general public. Would you rather receive your post before you set off for work, including packets, special delivery items & recorded items which if you are not at home you would have to wait 48hrs to pick them up,or would you rather receive it at at least 10AM,which you will be doing from next week. We aren't just striking for ourselves, most of us do genuinely care about the general public too. I want the dispute resolving just as much as everyone else. Earwig,be honest, wouldn't you want to make a stand if you were to be made £35 a week worse off for working even harder than you do now. I currently earn £237 net + an average of £25 in leaflets. Under their new proposals i will probably earn no more than £245 net with the payrise,so will be around £17 a week worse off as i will no longer be paid for double the amount of leaflets that i deliver now. Your OH is obviously a skilled person, he must be happy with his situation otherwise he would leave. If Royal Mail win the dispute then i probably will be looking for work elsewhere.

Calley frm the feedback from my own customers it is 50/50 on those who support us & those who don't. I personally would have liked a work to rule implemented, but the situation is so serious that RM have backed us into a corner & striking is our only option. People should be venting their anger at the way Royal Mail have over the years ignored the general public & disregarded them, not on the posties who as part of this dispute are trying to make a stand for them.

Ltm you raise some good points. I do fail to see how royal mail could get any worse (maybe it's just my postie who can't read or something) Just after postie has been you can see the morning swap, neigbours running around passing the mis-delivered mail to each other. One day I was walking in town (a mile from home) and while crossing a railway bridge I found an unopened letter on the floor... addressed to me!

I remember the time (cue hovis music) when a first class stamp used to mean next day delivery. Now I think it means that the letter has a 75% chance of getting there at all, as opposed to 45% for second class :)
