Can anyone explain to me why I am being charged 2p for some text messages to a person and then 12p to the same person on two different days even though the messages are short ? I used no pictures or emoticons either ! This has happened to me before. I sent two text messages to my daughter in law from Spain on 14/6, one with 13 words, no pictures and the second 17 words, no pictures cost me 2p each. then I texted on 20/6 twice, first one 3 words, second one 16 words and they cost me 12p each ! Seems no rhyme or reason for it. Anyone know why ? As I say these were single texts with no emoticons.

Have you thought of dialing 150 and asking?

The last time they did it and I phoned, they had charged me for multiple messaging but that was whilst I was in the UK. This time as I say they are not multiple messages, one only had 3 words in it!

I believe they charge you for ringing 150 from Spain don't they ?

You were in Spain? It sounded like you said you were sending to your daughter in law who's from Spain.

It's quite easy then, before the 15th of June you paid an EU mandated minimum charge, after the 15th you now pay the same charge anywhere in the EU that the network charge you in the UK.

I would hazard a guess that texts messages have a standard rate of 12p per minute on your PAYG plan?

As above, charges for calls, texts and data while roaming in EEA countries and territories changed on 15 June 2017.

How do minutes come into texting ? Texting isn't charged based on minutes is it, I thought that was only for calls. Does explain though why the charge has increased by 6 times the rate ! Then they say being in the EU makes economic sense !:rotfl:

Without the EU, Text and call rates to/from the EU would be a free for all. Wait til Brexit and there's no regulation (subject to confirmation)

So you couldn't understand the gist of the message with one typo?

    Shame...

No wonder you weren't able to find out for yourself.

By the way, you're on an outdated and expensive plan, the EU made it a requirement for the companies to offer a single price across the EEA, no one is forcing you to be on an uncompetitive plan, there are plans charging 1p or 2p per text as a standard rate these days.

95% of uses have had far better value for money since the 15th.

Perhaps take some personal responsibility and don't blame the EU for your inadequacies.

I didn't ask or expect your sarcastic condescending comments regarding my "inadequacies". For your information, I only use my mobile for the odd text message here and there, it is not part of my physical appendage as it does seem to be with some people so I am not completely obsessed with keeping up on technical advances or tariff plans, contracts etc. It was an innocent question asking for a sensible answer. I always thought that was what MSE was set up for, help and advice, it appears not !

As for blaming the EU I wasn't aware I even mentioned it and in fact I will be going out to get blind drunk when we are out of the EU!!

In future I won't bother to ask for advice on here, it seems most people just want a punch bag and don't know how to be civil or polite !!!

You take one typo that didn't really change the gist of the info I gave and make a sarky reply and you want to call me sarcastic and condescending?

Oh, and with regards to the EU it looks like your recall of that is as bad as your grasp of your call and text rates on the ancient T-Mobile plan that you're liable for.

    Would you like a reminder?
