It was shipped with Windows 7/32 bit. If you wanted to reinstall Windows, all the drivers and manuals are there. Go here to the Acer Support page First,
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/support
- Find your FULL Model No. (5315 followed by more characters), and your SNID (Serial No.) on the laptop base. Connect and switch on the laptop, input those numbers into the "Find" bar OR "Restore my computer to Factory settings"
You will lose any data, but will have a faster laptop.
Hi, i am not sure if it was shipped with windows 7, is there a program i can use to find out please, as i cant read the information on the sticker? Thanks0 -
That is why your 7520 was better. It had a Dual Core processor and enhanced graphics capability.
So what you need is
If yours currently has a Celeron M, then the Intel Core2 Duo T5450 will be a suitable upgrade.
You can buy them for two to three pounds.

Intel Core2 Duo Processor T5750 perhaps around £5.

Confirm the CPU that is in the machine before going forward.
Hi, thanks for helping, i am quite happy to buy if it will speed it up, i am a bit confused as to what mine had installed, running, is there a way i can see and send you a screen shot?
Thanks0 -
Also, i don't mind wiping it as i have no files or anything on it yet
If i do need to re install windows 7 i will have a look on ebay for a cheap disc and product key
Would i need windows 7 32bit or 64bit?
Thanks0 -
If the computer runs use Belarc to determine existing key

And if Windows 7, download it using key from here:-

Home Key + Pause Break
The key on the bottom is for Vista Home Basic. You don't need to buy anything other than the CPU and thermal paste. £6 to £7 should do it.
Come back with the current CPU. My recommendation should work anyway and will make the laptop bearable in use.
In it's single core iteration, you'll be waiting around for things to happen.
General browsing is more CPU intensive than it used to be. So those old single core processors just can't cut the mustard.
For anything approaching the performance of your 7520, you'll need to upgrade the CPU.0 -

Find a low capacity USB drive and remove your data from it.
Plug it into your machine.
Download and run Rufus
Choose options;
Leave Cluster Size and Volume Label to their Defaults.
Both MS-DOS and FreeDOS are fine.
Start when you are ready.
Download and save firmware update files and copy the three files within the folder on to your newly created bootable media.
Turn off/restart laptop and Boot from USB; http://boot-keys.org/notebook/acer/aspire_5315/
At the command prompt type:flash and hit the ENTER key.
Wait until complete.
Then you can use your old Windows 7 OEM media to run a clean install. The same that you used for the Aspire 7520....and of course complete your CPU upgrade.0 -

You don't need to get in to your Aspire 7520, you should have separate DVD media that you created earlier.
Likely it was 32 bit DVD if you had less than 4GB on board. So install 32 bit for now, once you've updated the firmware. No product key necessary.0
