Tesco Highview Parking fine

Options
Hi all,

I've recently been up in Scotland renovating my gran's house for around 6 weeks. Just got home to a number of 'Invoices' from Highview Parking for overstaying in the Tesco car park. I had no internet in the house so was going for long lunch in the Tesco caf! every now and again to use the WiFi. So the fines are for parking there whilst I was actually spending money with them!

I've been in touch with Tesco customer services who say they've reviewed the fines and because there are signs in the car park they won't be cancelling them on this occasion (which I was really disappointed by). I'm now looking for advice on next steps. I have 2 fines, one is from late May, plus a number of reminders which I obviously haven't seen as I was away from home.

Grateful for any advice on what to do next.

Many thanks
Mike

Have a read of the newbies start here thread it tells you what to do.

You do not have a fine it is a speculative invoice.

Tesco employees do not even know the difference between a grape and a cherry believe me that's fact, so what do you think a customer service person knows about private parking signage!

Tesco/Highview signage is at best inadequate, and rarely conforms to the code of practice.

Highview are laughable Muppets you have little to fear from them, you should follow the advice in the newbies thread, but also complain firmly higher up the Tesco chain not their useless customer services and I know that for a fact too!

Many thanks, fisher. I have read the thread, just wanted to make sure there was nothing different to note as it's been a few weeks from issue until I saw the notices. Cheers for your help and I'll let you know how I get on!

Was the Tesco in Scotland? If so, ignore everything except court papers. There's no keeper liability in Scotland, and the parking company have no way to find out who was driving, so leave it that way.

Of course, nothing stopping you complaining to Tesco to get Highview to leave you alone. Again, without naming the driver.

It was indeed in Scotland. Thanks for the guidance. Should I reply to Highview in any way? Their latest letters threaten debt collectors and CCJs which is obviously unsettling!

Debt collectors are not a threat, they are a joke, they can't do anything except send silly letters that tell lies to try to bully you into submission.

You cant's get a ccj unless the PPC or Tesco take you to court, you loose, you refuse to pay, see it's them bending the facts!

Thanks for the re-assurance! My apologies I had missed the 'Scotland and NI section' in the Newbies thread.

I now understand that the guidance is simply to ignore. From your experiences in assisting others, what's likely to happen? Will they continue to send letters?

They will send a small forest of paperwork. Some will have scary red writing that seems to convince people to pay.

Sadly whilst this forest of paperwork is strong and very, very, long it fails on the soft test.

Thank you. From reading through all this I can't believe the industry are allowed to operate like this!? Do you think I can expect months/years of continued letters? There was a really good thread on pepipoo (topic 74304) showing the letter chain for Highview with Tesco but sadly it stops at the point the poster receives a threat of court action from Debt Recovery Plus :S

It's a totally unregulated industry. Some people hear nothing for a couple of years then a few letters start again. Who knows what theses chancers might do?

Unbelievable!! Well thanks for all the advice. Let's see how this goes. Just to be 100% clear: I shouldn't send anything to them even to refute the charge?
