Alternatives to open office calc to download onto tablet

Thanks for your time in having a look. I think what I've done (now I've calmed down!) is that I saved it differently. It gives two options for saving, I chose the second because the first couldn't guarantee saving accurately. but I think the second doesn't open on the tablet, because I keep getting 'open file failed.' I think the work I did this afternoon is on that file.
The hassles of not having my laptop and time pressure :eek:0 -
Please don't worry Robisere if you don't know what I'm describing. I can always borrow a friend's laptop tomorrow and just start again, lol0

After testing some of my old spreadsheets from way back, and converting them to the latest Open Office format, I think this may be what happened:
How do you Save? not a daft question, but I tried saving as I always do in OOffice (whichever part I am using) by using "Save As". This is best thought of as a 'New' Save: it saves as if for the first time, doesn't just replace the last version. I tried just "Save" and actually recreated your problem of missing data. Upon closing and reopening, the data came back.
I may be wrong, it may be that is not the case for you, but I have always used "Save As" after a similar problem many years ago, although that happened in OOffice Write. I would also consider that even the most expensive tablet will be slower than your laptop. I have a Lenovo Tab 3 8" and it takes more time to perform any task, than my wife's Lenovo laptop and (of course) my desktop. Which tablet do you have?
I am sorry if I cannot offer more advice: it may be that you need to accept that OOffice does not offer you the efficiency of a dedicated Accounting software might give you. You may be fine now you have the laptop back, but I would also invest in a backup routine. Either a Cloud backup such as Google Drive, or a simple external hard drive, would help you by carrying out regular backups. Meanwhile, when you have time, research accounting software, checking that whatever you find can be used with tablets and a PC, and able to Sync the two devices. I have not used accounting procedures since 2001, so am very out of touch.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
