Fury at late-night Hertfordshire Police door knock for bad parking http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-47330804

Police came round at 1 in the morning over a parking offence. Rather odd. Anyway, it's put Herts on the national news.

And yet when you phone Herts Police on 101, you hang on for 20 mins, then give up because you know that you aren't going to get through. Ended up filing crime report online.

I used to have a lovely collection of collectable and rare books but unfortunately had to sell them post divorce days to put food on the table and keep the lights/heat on.

My prized books now are two first edition signed CJ Sansom's...and my late paternal nan's dictionary and thesaurus.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

It's ridiculous. She'd parked earlier in the day on the kerb - and had since moved her car onto her drive..... then gone to bed at a reasonable hour....

1.30am should be for drugs busts and murders, not an OAP parking a car on a kerb for a few minutes 12 hours before....

My dad had two aggressive policemen at his door one evening.... all threatening and posturing and talking loudly in his face (dad would've been about 70). It turned out they had the wrong road!

The thing is, though, the papers rarely give the whole story. They seem to concentrate on the dramatic headline and the sad-face 'victim'.

I noticed from the clip that the road was called School Lane. Now, if this road is frequented by children going to school, then it might be that a lot of them have had to walk in the road because of cars parked on the pavement, and so put themselves at risk.

It might be that there have been warnings about this given out previously.

    Who knows?

Pure speculation on my part, but without knowing the whole story, it is difficult to comment on whether this is draconian, or a way of drumming the point home to people who keep flouting a by-law and so putting children's welfare at risk.

(In my immediate area, the pavements are very narrow indeed. If a car parks even a small bit on the pavement, it can prevent someone walking past it. Certainly anyone with a buggy or in a wheelchair would have no chance. When I first moved here, it was a strict offence to park on the pavement.; I'm not sure if it still is, but at the end of the day, pavements are for people, not cars, with the exception of pavements that are wide enough for both.
Some people might not take any notice of a fine. Maybe this is a way of ensuring that they do take notice?
    I don't know.)

The pavement outside our house is fairly ide, we always put two wheels on the kerbstones, still plenty of room for people / buggies/wheelchairs to pass and we less often get the sides/corners of our car damaged by people as they weave in and out of gaps as with people parked on both sides there is only space for one car in either direction.
    I think....

Read/watched a "hilarious" facebook thread last night....

A mother and her 2 kids (10 & 12) were cycling, just as it got dark, in a "nice area", but it's one of those areas I'm watching as part of "research" for where to live - and it's plagued with feral rampaging yoofs of late. They were close to the underpass, which is where the ferals hang out as they cross between areas....

A (possibly drunk) yoof had called out to them and her 10 year old son had responded with the phrase "your nan" .... and the mother couldn't understand why the (drunk) yoof went mad and chased them.....

As the thing unfolded, she called people aggressive on the thread (people who were "sniggering" at how her 10 year old was using this phrase/language and being confrontational to a (drunk) yoof and in front of his mother) .... and the more she typed, the more she was queering her pitch ... until she deleted it all.

In short: nobody said the yoof/s were in the right ... but she wasn't owning up to "her own part" in the situation.

She even lets her 10 year old watch Youtube videos that she said she doesn't agree with the content of. Youtube users should be 18, or 13 with a parent's permission - and a method is provided for parents to monitor/control what their kids watch

She can't see that her kid has the potential, already aged 10, for making the sort of poor choices that'll shortly see him following a troublesome path....

It's turning into a beautiful day! Not quite warm enough for a picnic, but I'm planning a stroll in the sun.

Is it okay to plant some bedding plants now, whilst there's still a likelihood of frost?

Lovely and sunny here today too.

Yesterday was the first day that "the sun" came through my living room window, into the room/on the wall... for 45 minutes. It disappears behind next door by 9am. This morning it's come through at 8am and it's still there (9.10), but will disappear in a bit.

Next time I might get a smidgeon of it on the south facing window will be 2ish, if it's still out :) Maybe for 10 minutes, maybe more. The sun, in the summer, is fine (until it completely disappears even at peak summer by 5pm).

HIGH priority for next house is the whole sun/into room thing.... so looking at orientation, trees, other buildings, lengths of gardens, height of surrounding buildings.... number 1 priority. Number 2 priority is then "so where's the car going". Then "check defendability of all borders" .... and if it meets those 3 criteria then a house is on the "A list" :)

We had a really sunny day yesterday but today is misty.

GDB2222 - I planted out bedding plants last week and they're doing ok. Have just planted some more this morning. Think I'll take my chances - they were beginning to get root bound in the greenhouse anyway and I need the room to plant veg seeds.

Yoghurt prepped this morning ready for tooth removal tomorrow. I think someone mentioned that tepe brushes are expensive, you can get the wisdom ones in home bargains for less than a pound.
