Did you ever have recourse to using the Coffin-Makers' Guide? :rotfl:

The thing is that even those out of date handbooks have an interest to social historians.

I have hung onto several telephone directories. They can be useful for finding phone numbers of firms who, online, don't have their phone number! Also, for checking addresses and suchlike.
    Not yet no!
I reckon the book comes from a time when the village carpenter would also be the undertaker, as he had the know-how to do the woodwork.
I've got a friend, he's in his 80s now, who worked in a place like that.
They did everything that was made of wood there. Including wooden cart wheels, and coffins!

And yes, the books are useful to social historians. It's just that storage of large tomes is space hungry!
I never ever throw books away though!

Wheels and barrels were really specialised trades. I'm impressed that your friend could make wheels.

Pyxis, did you read Asterix in the original French? I remember doing that with a friend at school, armed with a dictionary! It was very slow going, trying to spot all the jokes.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Yes they made wheels there and repaired them. The use of them was coming to an end by then though. No barrels though AFAIK.
Blacksmith's shop as well in the same place. There's a garage there now.

Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
