new bit and all the fittings £187 + vat to buy and £45 to fit.
So £270.
Is it worth mucking about and getting other quotes? It seems not unreasonable to just say "do it".
I just asked for a like-for-like new one ... £1850 (he didn't mention if that's +/inc VAT).
Seems reasonable to this untutored eye.
Did you say it was a for a heat exchanger?(I just lurve spiders!)

All I see is: Thundering great expensive liabilities, looming dangerously over my head every night I go to bed.... especially if it's windy.
People have died when stuff like that's come through the roof

It's absolutely beautiful.
People are terrible for ignoring chimney stacks. The reason they fall is that they do take a battering from the weather and if you haven't been up to repoint the soft lime mortar in 100 years then eventually they will fail. The likely upshot will be a warning of a few bricks twisting/slipping initially, not all of them at once.
The main culprit for an entire stack to come crashing down, without question, is people removing chimney breasts inside the house and not supporting them correctly, if at all. It's inevitable.
In theory, the stacks themselves should only need a little bit of work in a lifetime, although the size of those babies means it's not a tiny job.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

EDIT: Stuck it on a board too. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5964676/combi-boiler-fit-a-part-or-buy-a-new-one-no-longer-needed
If you have the model number, you can search for the price of the heat exchanger. I guess £187 is full list, and the guy is keeping any discount. £45 for fitting it is dead cheap. Plus he's not charged you for the diagnostic work. I'd have bitten his arm off!No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
...cheap. Plus he's not charged you for the diagnostic work. I'd have bitten his arm off!
That was my first thought. And is, in fact, my current thought/preference. But I'd like the opinion of others because ... I know nothing.
Of course "hasn't charge for diagnostic" is up in the air as he might mention that ... maybe he got home and thought "forgot to ask for money .... will get round to it". Maybe he'll turn up to fix and say "Thanks, that's £270 + £45 for last time I came"0 -
SOunds a decent guy offering you a decent price PN. Round here they would charge £60 minimum call out if you were lucky.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Joe has got through to stage 3 in his application for his placement year at the BBC...I think he is excited but nervous at the same time.
I've jumped from number 4 in my 'office/location' to number 2 and I am now being trained in management tasks so that I can cover the manager when she is off. My hours have also increased, possibly only on a temporary basis whilst another member is on long term sick but it may become permanent. It's still part time but the extra money will certainly come in handy and I still have a nice mix of shifts which allow me to rest up in between.
I knew I wouldn't be able to stay a normal bod for long, my ambition always gets the better of me and I then start displaying my knowledge/leadership skills without realising I am doing it :rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
