Having an insignificant "Christmas Mini Crisis" here
Supposed to be going out and wearing a Xmas Jumper.... but I don't have one, so I thought "I'll chuck on my santa hat ... to look like I tried a bit".
Can't find any of my Xmas stuff. There are a few boxes: baubles, lights, tinsel.... and I knew exactly where they were. But when I decluttered and tidied up I used that cupboard for other things... so the Xmas stuff got re-boxed... but which box, where... I've looked (man looking) under my bed, under the spare bedroom bed, at/in a couple of other boxes... but I can't find the stuff.
I do KNOW it's here somewhere... but I've not got the time to start getting everything out and having a proper look as it'll just create a trail of clutter as I rush onto the second place, leaving the first lot out ...
So ... I give up
I can't put the stuff up for another 2-3 weeks, in case there's viewings, so it's not critical - and I do KNOW it's all round here somewhere, boxed up neatly, all together..... just don't know which box. It should be a no brainer - there's quite a lot of it, so it has to be in a big box. The baubles are still kept in their original packaging, which was a large box .... and so the large box I'm looking for has to be at least large enough to contain that + the other stuff, so the box would be about 3x the size of the baubles box..... but which bl00dy box. It shouldn't have been this hard
Man looking is the issue.... I needed to methodically pull everything out and look properly inside each box. *sighs*
So, I'm going out and will look like "the person who didn't get the memo" and/or Grinch ..... when the only thing going on here is .... leaving it until the last minute to look for the santa hat0 -

IMO CCTV cameras at entrances are more of a deterrent to most than anything else, and monitored from reception are likely a much cheaper alternative to the fencing with no additional long term costs.
Locking gates on entrances for caretakers again is usually the best solution. My school had this in the 90s and there were never any issues with this, in arguably more dangerous times. This was in a reasonably rough Northern city centre.
I must admit, when I realised that my local primary, the one that my own children had been to, was now guarded by locks, intercom and CCTV, I did feel sad.
I am now wondering what the statistics are, i.e. numbers of incidents of intruders causing harm to children, to warrant this 'imprisonment'?
Or is it just a fear?
When I think that, 30 years ago, I hired a video camera for the weekend, (which was the size of a roving BBC camera,, it was so big I had to put it on my shoulder), to film my children, and before I took it back on the Monday, I went round to the school and filmed them in the playground with dozens of other children, and no-one batted an eyelid.
Can you just imagine what would happen if I were to try that now? I'd probably be arrested.(I just lurve spiders!)

Josh was what made his primary school adopt those measures, it wasn't a case of keeping people out but keeping children like Josh in...he was a bloody nightmare!
He had no sense of danger and would forget road rules, he would just run whilst in an aspergic meltdown/rage and umpteem times ended up in the middle of the very busy main road or having the police called and an amber alert sent out because he had disappeared in his panic.
Even now I have to remind him to look before he crosses a road as he forgets, it's one of the reasons he is never allowed to learn to drive, he would be concentrating so much on one aspect that he would forget about doing all the others - like looking for other cars or people. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Well that was a cheerful read.
Somehow although my door is about 9 feet wide when I ask for a quote it is more than the advertised price for a 14 foot 'double' door....
Plus do I just replace like with like or go for a sectional door which is supposed to be better/longer lasting and/or do I get the door put in between the opening rather than behind it to give 20cm more garage space in case I get a longer car in future?I think....0 -
I remember the episode of One Foot in the Grave where Patrick's been moaning incessantly at the supplier/fitter because his new remote control automatic up and over garage door hadn't worked since it was installed.
He was going to be out when they said they'd come and fix it so when he got home he tried the remote control and the house front door lifted and opened instead0 -

Would it change the look of the house if you move the door forward 20 cms?
Also, are there standard sizes for these doors, and moving the door may make the difference between using an off-the shelf solution and getting a custom size made, or v-v?
Standard up-and-over flat doors are pretty cheap solutions. Why change? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
