Thoughts to the Clan of Sue, who are packing/driving again today.

    Thanks PN x
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

OK ... so how does this house prices malarky work?

House in a "rough area", sold for £223k as a brand new build when I bought mine for £210k in a "nice area"

So where are we now 4 years on?

Rough area house on market for £315k. Increase of 41%
Mine on market for £270k. Increase of 29%

... and when I look at the house in the rough area on streetview aerial one house is pointed out as being "Mistress...." - who turns out to be a !!!!!!-eating dominatrix. That's her major specialism, according to Google. BLIMEY!

So, if you buy a new build in a "rough area" ... and have a dominatrix move in 2-3 doors down ... your house is worth more after 4 years than if you bought a 2nd hand house in a "nice area".

There really is no rhyme or reason to price changes is there...

I don't know, people are always complaining when new builds don't have amenities within walking distance.....

Seriously though the biggest price rises often happen with gentrification whereas less desirable house in a good area might hit a ceiling (less desirable perhaps because of an outlook on to commercial properties or parking issues - not something that would impact in most areas but if you are paying nice area premium then perhaps you have already decided you don't want these compromises)
    I think....

If I understand correctly, neither of these houses has sold yet. So, these are just asking prices.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Rough area is less rough, so increase is greater.

Your area hasn't changed much, so increase is average.

Unearthly our of the morning jet-lagged.

Japan - the land of heated toilet seats and clean facilities.

Japan - the politest people I have ever met.

We had free instrument lessons at high school, I wanted to do piano or violin but they were full so I did horn, cornet and trumpet instead.

For Josh, his PRU purchased musical instruments and hired a specialist teacher after it was discovered that he calmed down and was able to learn after banging/tapping on walls, doors, tins etc. It was one teacher's hunch that changed Josh's life, before that they thought he was just doing it to be annoying/wind up rather than trying to calm himself. That one hunch meant that he calmed down enough to return to mainstream education and because access to playing music was a main stay in his statement of educational needs, ultimately, take GCSEs, A levels and go to university.

He did a mini dissertation (6000 words) last year on the benefits of music and differing needs, scored really well on it too.

Well, if that doesn't illustrate the benefits and healing power of music I don't know what does. :T :T

I love Italy, especially the food. Trying to avoid meat and shell fish in Japan was a struggle.

Tokyo- big modern city, lots to see

Kyoto - old city (former capital) steeped in history with amazing sites Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines

We also had an overnight stop in a Hakone, where we stayed in a traditional Japanese Ryoken (guest house) where we ate the most amazing Japanese meal off a low table sitting on mats and then slept on a futon (not that comfortable). Also tried the local hot spring bath.

12 hour flight - 9 hour time difference!

Dad's second on the list for his operation, fingers crossed his ITU bed hasn't been taken over night.

He's ended up on a different ward pre operation as his bed wasn't available on the vascular ward, he's in a side room on a urology ward! Huge room, own toilet and shower and the organisation compared to vascular is amazing.
