hjd, so very sorry to hear about your Mum. Even when expected it's a shock and hard to bear. And such a sad end to your holiday. Cyber hugs to you and your family. Do try and take care of yourself - there's so much to do, it can be overwhelming.
My best advice from when my parents were ill and then died is:
Try get at least one good belly laugh a day. We found the more inappropriate the better!:rotfl:
Even now we're very fond of Gogglebox - that deffo got us through some hard times!
I'm thinking of you and your family. I hope that knowing your stranger-friends are holding you all in our thoughts may give you some comfort. As a believer in the power of "Vibes" I do think that all care even from strangers and from afar helps.

Sue, fingers crossed your Dad's op goes ahead without further delays. Must be such a worrying time for you and your Mum. Oh, did she get her put off thing done yet? I'm sorry, I've been skim reading a bit so can't remember.
I'm still recovering from journey back home from Wales while we're trying to catch up on 20 million appointments etc :rotfl:
I'll be sending "The Vibes" on Sunday afternoon, and more on Monday too.

She's not had it yet, it's now booked for next Saturday morning, hopefully she will be able to make that one but with dad's operation on Monday, it does make it a little eek on being in two places at the same time. At this point we don't know how long he will be in hospital, we have received estimates from two days to over a week depending on who you talk to!
We have all discounted the two days opinion, pretty much due to the fact he has to go to ITU after the operation and because of his pre existing, they'll be wanting to keep an eye on his kidneys for a start as he has also developed kidney issues due to medication. The original surgeon had been saying at least 4 days post operative before discharge, so we are using that one as more of a guideline. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Grrr, mine started beeping so I went to change the batteries (2 alarms) only to find that whoever had "installed" them had not only fitted ones in which you can't change the battery  - but they'd also stuck the baseplates to the ceilings with double-sided tape so I couldn't easily take them off to fit a different type without risking damaging the ceilings.:mad::mad:
I did manage to get the downstairs one off with the damage limited to just the area covered by the new baseplate after a lot of careful work with a flexible carving knife but the other is right above the top of the stairs No way I'm farting about on a stepladder there, the new baseplate is only slightly smaller than to old one so I've screwed it on top of the old one.
At least I have ones where I can change the batteries now.0 -

Mine are "hard wired" ... so not only did I have the fear of being up the wobbly ladder (and who would have known if I'd fallen off, like the man stuck up on his roof 3 days)... but when one is hard wired you are up a ladder, working out how to twist/pull it off and open - and then it's still attached to the ceiling with wires (which you don't want to dislodge so they end up starting a ceiling fire in months to come) ... so you've not even got the luxury of getting down to floor level to do the changeover, but have to hold this thing up near the ceiling, while removing the old battery, getting the new one in, then putting it all back together ... without forgetting you can't step backwards off a ladder
I wonder how many A&E reports start with the words ".... I was changing the battery...."0 -

Pastures, surely you could call a friend or sibling before you go up the ladder, then give the all-clear when you get down again safely?
I hope the viewing goes well.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
