When I looked at how I live and what I actually do, as opposed to what I could do .... I realised that even though I'm "just 1 mile" from the beach, I don't actually go.
Why don't I actually go? Well, it's pretty rubbish there to be honest. It's not a great beach, it's "just a beach" ... and it's very windy and, unless you're there with somebody else, it's boring. It's not a beach to settle down on nice sand, perchance to shuffle in for a paddle.... there are no significant waves, no golden sands ....
And what else is there? Nothing. You can be sold overpriced fish/chips, or sit in a conservatory on an overpriced cafe, or go into a tiny pub (12'x20') ..... and that's it.
So ... the option is to walk 1 mile, alone, to a beach that is insignificant, where you can't "enjoy the golden sands", nor "enjoy a good swim" as it's got treacherous tidal pulls as it's actually a harbour entrance...
So, on reflection .... I've not bothered with it. Parking is VERY expensive there, hence having to walk.
I'm sure that those with money LOVE driving there, with somebody else, enjoying a promenade stroll while spotting the odd passing boat, before going into an eatery and enjoying a nice chat over a meal together. Total cost for a late afternoon/early evening park/stroll/scoff/drinks would total about £40-£60.
If you've no cash and are on your own and "begrudge" the overpriced parking .... it's a boring, windy place.
So, I figured.... I might as well "live anywhere else" and not go
If I go somewhere closer to where the beaches are nicer (and parking cheaper), I'm more likely to drive/go.
In the main, though, beaches are places best visited "with others".
"All I want" is somewhere where I won't be inconvenienced/bothered .... and where the outside space is super sunny at least from noon onwards... afternoon/evening sun, not early morning stuff.
Then there's a big list of things I'd like.... to add each one adds a potential 5 miles further inland to get.... so the ideal house is probably somewhere in Milton Keynes.
So I'll compromise on "a bit further West" .... sunny .... easy/clear ORP for 2+.
I can "do without" a 3rd bedroom for "stuff/junk". I can "do without" a conservatory (that I'd love). I can "do without" a utility which I'd love. I can "do without" an actual garage. I can "do without" a lot of things.
There's one on the current shortlist that I might have to lose the parking criteria ... because it performs a few bits/bobs on the other lists.... there's a lovely little house at £35k under budget ... that, on paper, doesn't meet all my criteria.... but I just like it. Parking is one thing it doesn't have, but it's possible that there aren't the same ferals/footballs/skates/bikes issue at that location due to a variety of other environmental and layout factors.
I don't want a house, I don't want to be on an estate. I bet I'll end up in a house on an estate

That’s really nice actually.
And so cheap compared to round here, as Viva can confirm.💙💛 💔0 -
I checked the Oxford Dictionary, but they haven't included the following entry yet.

My brain which is full of 'useful' facts is flagging up that the skiing chase in one of the James Bond movies was filmed in Cyprus, I am sure google will know which one.
Was that the one where a baddie erroneously got into the path of a snow plough thing?
Pink snow ensued.
Can't remember the film, but I think it was a Roger Moore one. Might be wrong.
Edit.... no it was OHMSS....George Lazenby. Is that the one where, at the end, he skis off a cliff and then a Union Jack parachute opens up?
Or am I confused again?
Edit edit......no, that was Roger Moore!

No, at the end of that one he'd just married Tracy (Diana Rigg) and they were driving away when Blofeld and Irma Bunt gunned them down. Bond survived but Tracy was killed.0 -

Mr Sheen or Carnauba wax?
I'd say the latter would definitely be going too far, whilst French Polishing would, of course, be going waaaay too far. :rotfl:
Did you do the full height, or just what you could reach?

I wasn't going to go and get the shed key, put on my wellies, open the shed, get the ladder out, wobble up a ladder, wipe the ladder down (wet footprints), put the ladder away, lock the shed.... just for the sake of being able to do another 3-4' bit
In other words, it now looks worse than it did before because it's only part polished, highlighting the grubby remainder, instead of just being uniformly grubby - which I doubt a potential purchaser would have even noticed let alone used the cleanliness or otherwise of it to influence their decision.
Maybe you should stop inventing "housework that you never knew existed" :rotfl:0 -

I know, I had that thought as I was doing it ... but, in my defence, it was actually worse at the bottom... it's not too bad up there.0
