Without that, there's nothing to stop anyone walking along from elsewhere provided they remain below the high water mark.
Cliffs. High and un-climbable with the sea always at the bottom, whatever the state of the tide. :D

Funny you should say that .... a man bought a castle....

    https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/property/robins-nightmare-i-bought-caverswall-931075

The trouble with people is they think that if there's no sign, it's OK for them to help themselves to spaces. They assume land is public, or shared.... and if you dare try to give it "Get Orf Moi Land...." they make out you're the wrong-doer and/or miserable s0d.

That was an imteresting article. He bought the castle as his dream home, but then kept trying to turn it into businesses.
Methinks the gentleman doth protest too much.

I think those who want a moat aren't "people haters", but are the sort who get put upon/victimised by the sort of people who take the pee, or who find unacceptable behaviour acceptable. The sort of people who just assume they can do what they like, when they like - and couldn't give a monkey's chuff that it's offensive/anti-social to others.

You try to point out the error of some people's ways and it makes them more determined to go out of their way to continue to do whatever it is that they don't have a right to do ... to take the pee.... and to make out it's not them, it's you.

That's what moats are for - keeping that peasant-thinking out of harm's way.

Many people jump to the defence of the most vocal these days - the most vocal are usually the ones entirely in the wrong. Nobody's interested in facts, just who has the biggest gob in the street, or on Facebook.

Outraged people are everywhere .... being outraged that somebody told them "No"..... and they don't like it.

Maybe there was something to be said for "knowing your place". :D

I think that the problem these days is that some people just don't ''know their place", but think they can do anything they like.

Knowing one's place isn't only about being subservient, but about knowing what and where the boundaries are, whether it's someone else's property, or behaviour boundaries.

    As I'm fond of saying.
Too many rights. Not enough responsibilities.

I don't think I'm superior. I try to treat everyone the same.
I don't expect people to be subservient. I'm certainly not.
But on the other hand I don't go out of the way to be a PITA to others because I'm "entitled"
Even when we were kids' if someone told us to "Go off and play elsewhere" we would.

I remember reading about someone suggesting their ideal place to live would be in the key diagram for a geography book i.e right next to a sea, mountain, forest, river, lake etc.

One of my in-laws used to work in Cyprus and was into the great outdoors, liked scuba diving and skiing and could indulge easily from where he lived.

Snow skiing? In Cyprus? Well, I am surprised, I must admit.

My brain which is full of 'useful' facts is flagging up that the skiing chase in one of the James Bond movies was filmed in Cyprus, I am sure google will know which one.
    I think....

According to wikipedia, the Troodos Mountains on Cyprus experience heavy snowfall in winter.

I'm getting used to the idea. Coming to terms with the unexpected! :)
