So then I thought: Bugg4h it ... put it back running through freeview & indoor aerial. At least you had something.
But no ... now that doesn't work. I'll have another go.
PY: I've no old brown leads... just modern white ones.
I'm just sick of the sight of a big indoor aerial ... and a lead .... and a freeview box ... and a lead .... all of which need access to power .... and limited to the length of their leads.
It sounded wonderful to have just the telly on display, with one aerial lead and needing one power source.
At the moment I run an extension cable from the wall socket - that then runs all the bits/bobs, so I can turn the telly (three power sources required) from one switch. It's all just a bit "cluttered/annoying" to have all that lot of wires everywhere all the time.
EDIT: Just turned it all off at the wall and on again - and I have a picture
Sound is tinny .... but I've got a picture and some sound.
But, also annoyingly, I have to change channels via the freeview box, not the telly remote. So, still/again, two remotes needed.
EDIT: Ah, volume can be increased through freeview. Sorted
At least this flatscreen telly "looks nicer" than the small old portable CRT did. It's my first ever flatscreen .... bought for mum's care home room, I kept it when I did the room clearance as I didn't have one.
The old portable had been given to me 4½ years ago by somebody who'd kept it in case they ever needed it/found somebody who needed one....as you do. "Shame to throw it out" mentality .... that I benefitted from. That telly is now upstairs as it'll go in the bedroom at some point, just because "it's a shame to throw it out".0 -
We recently had to rescan all our freeview boxes as they have changed the channels around. Last night we also couldn't watch BBC2 HD as it was too pixellated which I guess may be to do with the new broadcast muxes or because it was peeing down with rain, I fear at some point we may need a new aerial, our current one is ancient and does not claim to be digital but has worked fine up to now.I think....0

The reason I had another go at this today was the following thinking:
- this new piece of furniture has a top shelf wide enough to take a flatpanel TV and the telly would be up high so more viewable from more places in the room.
- if I moved the shelf to be underneath the high wall socket/power socket that'd be neat and no wires on display.
That was the (failed) plan anyway.
There are two small holes in the wall up there, indicating the previous owners might've had a telly there at some point .... but maybe they did that, then found the aerial socket not working, so went down the Sky route the next day.... I'll never know.0 -

Or, maybe, they specified that the cabling should be for Sky when the house was being fitted out to their requirements, so it's never had a terrestrial antenna/cabling at all.0 -

You are ahead of me, then. I still haven't got one.Or, maybe, they specified that the cabling should be for Sky when the house was being fitted out to their requirements, so it's never had a terrestrial antenna/cabling at all.
Yes. It sounds like this to me.
Hope you can get sorted out. I have just been fitting the fixings to the back of a new picture I've got for my bedroom and hanging it on the wall. It's a photo of Avatar Dog relaxing in the garden, which I had printed onto canvas and mounted.
Next jobs: choose high visibility Goretex jacket for cycling to work when it gets dark, and investigate the quantity and state of the paint in the part-used cans.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Yes.. this is the problem I had with mine. I havent had as good a reception on some of the Bedmond channels, like you dont know if it is weather related. The other thing with flat screen TVs is that they don't have the speaker depth of a CRT, so do tend to be a bit tinnier, hence the growth of soundbars etc. Bedmond is one of the big transmitters in Herts, in case anyone was wondering. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? OK, found good cycling gloves fairly easily - touchscreen compatible so I can stop and use my phone and get back on again without having to unglove.
(It's my birthday coming up soon and some of my friends/family will want to pick things off an Amazon list so I need to stock it with things I want in time for them to use it - hence choosing winter cycling gear.) The hi-vis jacket is less urgent - it's too expensive for anyone to get it for my birthday - but I'd like to sort it while I'm still on school holidays, because finding the time to deal with it once term starts will be harder.
So, NP who cycle - have any of you had, or known anyone who had, a Gore Bike jacket? They claim to be "high visibility due to reflective inserts" but it's not clear from the picture how good this is. Some of them appear to be reflective in the piping only, and I think I'd like to be a bit more visible than that.
I am looking for
* Real Gore-tex, not a cheaper copy, although I don't mind whether the whole garment is manufactured by Gore or by somebody else using Gore-tex membrane
* Not too bulky - doesn't need to keep me warm because I'll do that with layers underneath
* High visibility to keep me safe
* Pockets
If I can't get all that in one garment, I'll get a cheap reflective bib and wear it over my existing dark jacket.
Recommendations appreciated.Lydia, could you try emailing the suppliers to ask them?
I've tried posting questions on a website or two - you know the bit after the listing where you can click "ask a question". But no answers so far.We want to see your mood board when you've complied it!
I'm not sure I'm going to have one - but I'll post pics of the finished room(s) elsewhere when it's all finished. It might be quite a while, though - apparently the painters who've been recommended to me are booked up for the next few months. I'd rather wait for people I know will do it well and not rip me off than rush into something less reliable, though. We're going to do the painting ourselves for most of it - rooms where we're just refreshing the paintwork rather than doing it a whole new colour, and where there isn't any making good of walls to do - and get professionals in for the living room (walls need making good where curtain poles have been inexpertly removed) and dining room (ditto, and also requiring ladders etc to go up over the stairs, which I am not willing to do myself).
Yes, yes, I know. I'm posting a lot of first world problems this week. That's because I'm trying to use my teacher holidays to get lots of things sorted out, and that means choices that I find difficult.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
