They'd be hard to watch if they were all soft and floppy :rotfl:I might have a clue what to fiddle with next.... there's a setting for "Input Source" ... although, without having a clue, "that looks right to me" as it says "AV2 & Scart" ... so my brain was thinking "need to set it to being an aerial input and not the scart/freeview-box" .... so wondering whether choosing ATV might make it work by magic.
Is there a setting for the source being something like "Digital" or "DTV"?
If so, try setting it to that and letting (or telling it to) run a channel scan - you might need to dig out the destructions to find out how to do that though. It'll probably be in a Setup menu.
One other thought - has the darned thing got more than one antenna socket? If so, try the other one(s).
If you've only had it a couple of years it will have the freeview decoder built in, it's just a case of figuring out how to set it up.0 -
Well, I fiddled ... with the aerial plugged directly into the telly again ... no joy.
Looking for the destructions and I can't immediately find them. One of the problems with finding things is that if something doesn't have a specific place to keep it, although you "kept it safe" you can't lay your hands on it immediately. If you've not got "exactly the right furniture/storage/system" in place then things do get put into "safe places" that you can't remember/find again
I'm guessing .... the telly instruction booklet is with the cordless screwdriver. Both "in a safe place". At least I'm careful enough to know that I DO have the booklet...and there's no way it's been discarded.0 -

DTV: Yes, there is. I'll try that.
SETUP: There is a button on the remote I randomly pressed optimistically a dozen times but it did nothing.
ANTENNA SOCKET: I just checked, just the one. One Scart, one aerial socket, 3 coloured speakers sockets.
SOCKETS: The house was a new build; the original owners fitted a Sky box/sockets... in the loft is some box in the corner with lights flashing.
I have not managed to get a socket to run a telly .... this is the 2nd socket I've tried (there are three in the house in total) but I have no clue whatsoever about "boxes in lofts" - and am petrified of lofts...and don't want to pay a fortune to somebody to come round a flick a switch I never knew existed
I'm just hoping "it'll just all start working OK".
FREEVIEW: Yes, it has a sticker on it saying HD, Dolby, Digital, Freeview on the front of it.
EDIT:
DTV: I had already set it to that.
When I press the CHANNEL button, the channel numbers appear and tell me which channel they are, there's just no picture and there is a "bouncing box" on the screen saying "NO SIGNAL....check aerial or selected input is properly connected and switched on" - of course, this bit is a big fat fail if you've no idea how/when it is "properly connected"....
*sobs*
I just want it to work
For the record, it's a simple BUSH TV.0 -
Oh Pastures, I do feel for you. I dread something going wrong with our TV and OH not being around to work out how to sort it
Maggie What gorgeous pics, thank you0 -
I've been trying anything I can find to fiddle with - with no joy.
I even found a RESET option and chose that ... and it asked if I was sure and I said yes. Still no joy.
The telly works. I know that as I can get it working through the freeview/indoor aerial combo.... although the sound is suspect.
So that's a start.
I've tried two aerial sockets - and two aerial leads. On the balance of probability, it's probably not that.
It is possible that the aerial socket on the wall has no aerial. No idea how one'd check that; I've always had houses that had an aerial that you could see outside.... and I am NOT going into the loft .... not gonna happen. Scared of lofts.
But, if it's the aerial socket, then why doesn't me going directly from the indoor aerial to the telly work? That should've worked if it were simply an aerial/socket problem.
Maybe if I try the indoor aerial -> TV ... and then try to change the Input Source. I'll try that.
EDIT: No. I still get the same result. "NO SIGNAL" bouncing round the screen, but a tiny 2" box top left telling me the channel number/name. So SOMETHING must be getting through somewhere I'd have thought, otherwise how does it know it's on BBC1 to tell me that? Or is that part of the auto-scan settings saved inside the telly?
*sighs*

I did consider mentioning that, but decided to be nice instead :rotfl:PasturesNew wrote: »I have not managed to get a socket to run a telly
What about the indoor antenna that you're using for the portable via the freeviw box?SOCKETS: The house was a new build; the original owners fitted a Sky box/sockets... in the loft is some box in the corner with lights flashing.
In which case, you need to either use your indoor antenna or "get someone in" to install a rooftop or loft antenna and appropriate cabling.0 -

I'm beginning to wonder if you've actually got a fixed TV antenna and cabling for other than Murdoch's ripoff services.
In which case, you need to either use your indoor antenna or "get someone in" to install a rooftop or loft antenna and appropriate cabling.
I was thinking that when I have "all the jobs in the house done, when I get the extension done, next year" it'd be a job to add to that of getting somebody in to tell me what's wrong.
I'd have just expected that any new build house would have sockets and a working aerial from day one. Seems mental not to.
The issue I have is that if I even start to "find somebody" to call in there'll be a huge charge .... for something that I can work round by using the indoor aerial and freeview box....I don't wish to use these as each is plugged into the mains and takes up room and looks cluttered. But it's cheaper than calling in somebody who might charge an indeterminate fee for something that I don't understand. Maybe I should call one in for a free quote to add more sockets..... and listen to what he says about the existing ones
That'd be a free way to find out if the existing sockets were working or not I bet.
I've now got the model number from the back of the telly.
BTVD91216B - so I can google the manual.
And here it is, on the Argos site, which is where it was bought from:

No that wasn't the one

Just had a small bird fly into the caravan through the open front door. Fortunately it flew straight out again! It was so fast I couldn't even be sure what kind of small bird it was, but maybe a blue tit. Think that's the 4th "visit" we've had this holiday! The last one OH had to catch in his hands as it was so panicked, just fluttering up and down the window, completely ignoring the open window just above the fixed pane.
The other thing they do is fly into the glass which always gives me a bit of a shock with the Thump noise it makes.
No sign of ants yet, but it's probably a bit early in the morning for them!0 -
I'm going through the manual and can't find any references to how you actually force a channel rescan /fresh setup / new start.
Maybe the language is over my head.0 -
Pastures, I have a problem with my roof aerial.... basically it has stopped working.
Yet I can get a lot of channels on my bedroom TV, not from any other sockets, though, albeit subject to occasional pixelation especially in certain weather conditions.
I have been told that's because my aerial lead is old, and not as well insulated as more modern leads, so the old lead is acting as a aerial!
However, I can really only watch the TV when it is connected to the Freeview box, not when it is directly connected to to the aerial.
This is all borne out by the fact that when I tried to use a modern lead, I got nothing.
In the absence of any other troubleshooting success, it sound like you don't have a roof aerial, and possibly not even a loft aerial. Also, in some areas, loft aerials are insufficient anyway.
Have you got an old brown lead you could try?
(I must get my aerial looked at, too!)(I just lurve spiders!)
