It did sound like you were remarkably relaxed about the burglary!

Our new record time to Sheringham is over 5 hours, recorded 3 weeks ago on a Friday (during school holidays and after a particularly long spell of good weather, not that it lasted). That's a journey of 140 miles.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I read back and realised it could be read either way, the answer is luckily the latter.

I always think if we were really burgled the thieves would be most disappointed, there is zilch of any value in the house and they would have to spend hours searching through the carp to discover that :)

I must admit you had me worried there!
Bit puzzled by the fact that you weren't sure if you had been burgled or not! Or so it seemed!

However, people don't seem to realise that they do have things of value to the thief. TVs, recorders/Freeview/satellite boxes, computers, play stations.......any tech stuff can get them a few quid for a fix or a bottle.
Things like car keys, too, especially if your car is on the drive.

Called the plumber, yeah, on FB, to see if he was still up for servicing the boiler - and he said he's going away for the weekend, can do Tuesday.

    No good to me....

Looked out of the window for "neighbours I can mither".

    Nearest/preferred has gone away/blinds closed.

One I don't know, too early for him, he's a single bloke. Owner/occupier electrician though, so probably well able.

Another I don't know, they'd do, not sure what make-up their household is - lots of people in that house.... coming/going. Renters, of indeterminate ability.

Another I've spoken to, they'd do, if they answer their gate bell, but they're the furthest and I have to walk past their living room window to press the bell, so they might see me and choose not to answer (and that's embarrassing), but they are owner/occupiers from new.

So hard to choose one.... and it might be "a bit early for knocking on doors/favours from strangers who work" on a Saturday morning.

    Need a bath :)

I don't suppose it says anything in the boiler manual, does it?

You could always post for advice on the Home Maintenance thread.

However, what do these levers look like?

I don't remember mine as being particularly stiff. However, my radiators need bleeding, and I've been putting it off as it then means having to get into the loft to top up the water level, (my boiler is in the loft), and I couldn't be bothered, but if they look like mine, it would give me a boot up the bum to get that chore done, and then I can at least tell you how mine work, which way to turn them etc.

I've just had a look at the notes I made for myself.

The valve 'handle' in the closed position is at right angles to the pipe.

It looks like, to let water into the system, you turn the valve in the horizontal plane so that it aligns with the direction of the pipe.

It looks like you turn it anti-clockwise, i.e., to the left. This lets water in. Move it back to the right, to close, so that it's at right angles to the pipe again?

Lucky break! Spotted "preferred neighbour" blinds open, thought they were away as cars missing except one.... knocked, he came round - he struggled with it as the tap was quite stiff.... topped it up. He's an owner/occupier since new and "in the building trade" ... and even he said "I struggle with my own".

Boiler's working, hot water's running, off to have a bath :)

I've got a junior school report somewhere, that says something like "Jack likes to disappear into a book and needs to have other interests"
    Should have read,
"Jack is a crafty little so-and-so who likes to read, but also enjoys rule breaking, at which he is adept at not getting caught" ;)

When Aged P was a boy, one of his school reports had an excellent euphemism for "could work harder" - it said "I feel he is keeping something in reserve". I've used that on reports I've written at my school. :)

Pleased for you. Thanks for reminding me to check the water pressure in my own system.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    You weren't patronising :)

I'd have lived without washing .... wet wipes FTW :) - and I've never any visitors so nobody'd know if I was smelly :)

    First world.... eh.

It was annoying ... but "my own fault really" and it wasn't critical, just annoying.
