When I returned.... I saw something "alarming" .... a To Let sign up, 2 doors down.... this lot and last lot were adults sharing, so hopefully so will the next lot. £950/month is the price. Agent must've taken the photos before yesterday as it's showing the old fence (that I replaced yesterday)

So glad I am already at this stage of "I'm selling/can't live in fear of who is moving in next".

Looking at the RM advert, it says it was reduced 5 days ago ... but I've no idea how long it's been on as I very rarely search for rentals here.

Curtain rings have arrived, in a strange purple box with "ebay" printed on it. Most people'd just use a jiffy bag or regular/brown box.

    Edit, re. the sluggishness/survival thing.......

I read the article, and the study was done on molluscs. :(

Now, I know I do sometimes retreat into my shell, in certain circumstances, and clam up, but I whelky don't think we can apply those findings to humans, unfortunately.

Plus, although I did have a very large gallstone removed from my innards, I doubt one could compare it to a pearl. :(

Being a mollusc, I just watch out for walruses and carpenters. . .

All this talk of smoking... mum and I were talking about people who smoke yesterday. In the 1970s and 80s people who smoked 20 cigarettes a day were considered moderate smokers. We thought that now this would be considered a heavy smoker.

My nan smoked 60 to 80a day... a very heavy smoker, but I doubt anyone could afford the best part of £20-40 per day.

So my question is, for those of you who smoke, or live with smokers, what is now the average intake? Is the amount of smoke reduced not only as a result of people not smoking, but also by people smoking less?

None a day. I haven't actually smoked for 30 years, but I'm still "a smoker".
It'd only take a couple to get me going again!

I've been looking for the picture I bought for £1... and I think I've found the artist and identical pictures.... selling at £55-70, including at John Lewis.

So, happy to have spent £1 on that :)

The vases I bought, £2.50 for three, appear to be listed on ebay at £20 each.
I have two orange and one dark/sage green.

    Another/similar, pair of orange, £30

    Curtains, rings, hooks.

Curtains have a header tape - and you get to pick which of the 3 rows you twist the hooks into ... which will alter the length of them. Trouble is, it's a right faff ... as you have to put quite a lot on, then hang the curtain (including removing the existing curtain from the pole) so you can look to see if you should've put the hooks on a higher or lower row.

Putting it off for now. It's turned muggy and I don't fancy breaking into a sweat and going up and down a ladder with 90"/228cm of curtains.....

    They look nice!

If one or more is a piece of Scandinavian art glass, have a look and see if there is a signature on it. If there is, it might be worth researching the name.
Ok, it won't be worth a fortune, but even if it's worth £60 or £70, that's a great return on your £1!

If they are the sameish colour, they might look nice grouped together, rather than spread out all over the place. And on a window sill, they will catch the light and look lovely!
If one's a different colour, that can still go in the arrangement as 'the black sheep' one, you know the one that stands out and so draws the eye to the whole arrangement.

Talking of Scandinavian art glass, I once bought a rather nice, small, unusual, ceramic vase from a charity shop. There was a name on it, and I looked it up and it was a well-known art potter in Finland.
I had some Finnish friends at the time, and they immediately recognised the name, and said I'd done very well to buy it for whatever it was...... can't remember...... £2.50 or something.

Again, not a life-changer, (talking high tens), but rather nice to know!

It's currently in my glass cabinet of treasures.......... things ranging from that vase and a Victorian perfume bottle, through to a couple of Bakelite toys, through to a teddy bear I made myself aged 25 (:D), and finishing up at an amorphous 'thing' made at school by a sprog aged 8 that was supposed to be a pottery bowl. :D
    (I just lurve spiders!)

    No name.

I initially spotted the sign "Everything £1" ... then looked at what they were flogging, it was random glasswares - and the vases drew my eye, even though they're not large enough for what I want, one of the criteria was "two identical, so I can put them on the windowsills either side of my patio doors"... so the two orange fitted that... and then it seemed a shame to leave the lonely green one, so offered them 50p to also take that off their hands.

    They're quite heavy.

One of the others I bought is an inconsequential vase, but the final one is quite tall/large, so I'll have a go at googling that in a bit, once I've measured its height.

Trouble is, with owning anything "worth a few bob" is that you have to know the market to resell it, else you, too, end up at a car boot sale :)

Just measured the entirely different purple one, it's 40cm, and tapers. I'll google it. It's got a "shop sticker" on the bottom, so that won't be worth more than any other random nice looking vase.

When I've had to do it I've measured the drop I want, laid the curtain out so that at least a vertical edge (more if I have space) is flat and measured to identify which height strip I think I require, inserted a hook in that row and remeasured to double-check before bunging the rest of the hooks in.

Lovely weather today. I have left the door open out into the (secure) garden so New Dog can come and go as she pleases. She's been out there basking in the sun for a bit, and has now come in to cool down. Stroking her, I can really feel how much being black has made her absorb the heat effectively!

She seems to be a quick learner. Having apparently not had the faintest idea what "sit" meant when we got her, she is now getting quite good at it. :) Of course, since she was found straying in the Brecons, it's always possible that she knew it in Welsh but not in English. I've just looked it up on Google translate and tried saying it to her in Welsh, but she sat almost before I said anything, so it didn't really tell me much. I think she has learnt "When the human calls me and has a treat in her hand, it's a good idea to sit because she usually doesn't give me the treat until I do, and lying down after the first treat gives me a good chance of getting a second one." She didn't know that when we first got her, though.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
