I don't think I want to paint the stairs. Even though they are a bit overpowering, I do kind of like the wood. I've been wondering about toning them down by adding carpet so that less total area of wood is visible. I found this picture, which shows stairs of a very similar colour to mine:
Not that I would choose tartan carpet, though!Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Hmm. Now I am muddling up two comic stories.
One was the true story of Patricia Neal, who was an actress not a ballerina. She had a series of strokes which left her unable to walk.
The other was a pictorial account in the girl's comic of the film The
Red Shoes, about a ballerina, played by the real life ballerina Moira Shearer.
I once spent a very pleasant train journey from London to Kings Lynn in the company of Moira Shearer and Ludovic Kennedy. I had to have it explained to me who they were, but they were both charming. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I have been thinking about the suggestion that I should consider wood instead of carpet for the dining room that's got me so confused about my plans. I don't think wood would work. It would be overwhelmingly too dark to have the floor in the same kind of wood as the stairs, but seriously odd to have a wood floor of one kind of wood and wooden stairs of a totally different kind.
Wood comes in many colours these days, pre-stained etc.
But LVT is a hard floor. You start with Amtico then Karndean at the upper end, and there ae brands like MFlor and Polyfloor that bring the price down (not so much marketing and mark up). That will look like stained wood in every colour, or tiles (without cold of actual ceramic/porcelain).
It's why I mentioned grey. Grey wood effect, or stained wood will not clash. Natural wood colours can really clash, so I hear you! I promise, there's a world of stuff you've not seen if you head for less mass market, but even B&Q have a grey laminate.
I highly recommend Pinterest. Your DD will love it if mine is anything to go by. Wonderful ideas - you can create one board for one room between you and share ideas online.
Our family is doing it for our whole new house. That mess at the back that you may have seen is finally going to be our home. Lots of fun coming up!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

There is a great "wooden" floor, but I don't know what to call it to go out and look at some for my house. It's "solid" in that it is stuck down hard... it's not a loose clicky clacky laminate like mine.
It's robust and there's not a single mark on it ... It was fitted by the developers
I'd like a floor "like that .... that's a solid looking floor and not a clicky clacky thing"0 -
I'll put money on it being LVT.

I would be tempted to sand the stairs and stain them ebony then go for a white ash solid wood floor but I think you are more of a carpet gal and I am not sure how it would work with the period furniture?I think....0

Well, between you, you and other NP who've mentioned it have finally persuaded me to join Pinterest. I'll talk to DD about contributing to the board, and we can set one up for her too.
So now that you've convinced me, I need advice please. So far I have logged into Pinterest via FB. I don't necessarily want DD to have access to my FB. I'm a member of some secret FB groups for widows etc that wouldn't really be appropriate for her. Should I change my Pinterest login? Or can I allow her to contribute to my board if she's logged in as her? I think she already has a Pinterest ID, and if she hasn't we can make one for her.I would be tempted to sand the stairs and stain them ebony then go for a white ash solid wood floor but I think you are more of a carpet gal and I am not sure how it would work with the period furniture?
By the looks of the accidental chips and scrapes that have happened to the stairs over the nearly 50 years since the house was built, they are made of wood that's naturally dark rather than stained. Sanding them won't make them paler, and I think staining them darker would make them dominate the room even more.
Making it work with the period furniture is the challenge!Do you know anyone who's bereaved? 4.19am - woken by movement outside and a car that doesn't sound particularly healthy.
4.30am - car driven off carrying my next door neighbours for their holiday.
They usually holiday in Scotland, the way their car sounded I would be surprised if it made it to Ipswich! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
