The wedding went well yesterday. At least, the young couple ended up married to each other, with neither of them married to the rabbi, which is a risk in the Jewish marriage ceremony.

At 1AM on the morning of the wedding, I showed DW a draft of the welcome speech I had just written.

She: You shouldn't have written that. This is an egalitarian wedding and I'm making the welcome speech.

    Me: What will you say?

She: I'll say what you've written.

    Very sensible of your wife!

I must say, I've never heard of any Jewish wedding on a Friday, but it does make sense as you can combine traditional Friday night dinner with the wedding party.

I'm glad it went well. Is this your first offspring to marry?

Is it a Reformed Synagogue thing?
There was mention of an egalitarian wedding. Is there perhaps a reformed reformed synagogue, iyswim, where a lot more is relaxed?

Having said that, am I right in thinking that the Sabbath doesn't start until the afternoon?

Friday was Tu B'Av - a minor Jewish holiday that is said to be a good day for getting married. A bit like getting married on Valentine's Day. Plus, there was the lunar eclipse to look forward to - or not, as it turned out.

The rabbi was a patient of my parents' practice when he was a child. My mother was a gynaecologist, so it's quite likely she had a hand in his birth.

So, that's the girl wed. Four boys to go.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I think some people moaned too much about being too hot and this is what happens!

I was too hot. Now I'm too cold.

My car's clean for the first time in weeks!

Twice went to Sainsbury's to get a Romanian/Bulgarian car wash done, and twice there was nobody there! So it stayed dusty and dirty until I got my window-cleaner man to rinse off the windscreens for me. Thursday.

(And before anyone says anything, :D, there are physical reasons why I won't do it myself! I could do it, but then I'd have more pain, and have had quite a bit lately, so don't really want any more!)

That makes for an interesting NP poll Pyxis:
    Do you.....

    A. wash your own car
    B. let someone or something else (drive through) wash it for you
    C. wait until you take it to a garage, who'll wash it for free, very MSE
    D. leave it for nature's car wash?

    I'm a B/D myself.

    D.

But I've only owned it 8 years, so it's not really due a wash yet anyway.

I wash my own car with a bucket of water but not very often. Usually end up doing DHs as well.

I tried washing one of my cars once... I did a rotten job of it and had a dirty stripe the length of the roof where I couldn't reach the middle 2'.

Not bothered since, it's a soulless, thankless, depressing task. It'll rain soon enough.

Where my current car's parked, due to it being "allocated" style parking... it'd also involve driving the car forward and potentially being in the way of others wishing to turn/park etc... and having a full "audience" surrounding me watching me... I don't like to be seen/watched doing anything.
