Having a life IRL?? ?
Not me. I was here, but nothing new to say ....
I've not actually "gone out/seen anybody else/spoken to anybody" for about 4½ weeks now.
I've "done nothing" as it's been so hot overall; it's not rained here at all in all that time. It was overcast/blowy yesterday, but now scorchio again.
I did get the courage up to contact a family-history relation and share some photos to see if they knew who they were... bizarrely she identified my mother as one of my "mystery woman" photos! Probably aged about 20-21 in a studio face shot.
With that new courage, when she told me a couple of others were on FB I found them an did a Friend Request that was accepted. Those two brothers (born 1952) are my: grandmother's brother's two youngest; so they are my mother's 1st cousins - that makes us 1st cousins once removed. I met their parents as I remember them being at granny's funeral wake about 27 years ago.
So I now have two people on FB ... and I've no idea how to interract with them at all ... so waiting to see if they post anything I can comment on... I have a photo they might be interested in, but they might've seen it before ... so at that "shall I, shan't I share" moment... not everybody's interested in seeing old photos... it's their older brother, aged about 2-3 (now deceased), but a "striking" photo from an unusual angle.

I would send the photo, Pastures - if they haven't seen it before, they may well be interested, and if they have seen it before, no harm done
I have one of those studio shots of my mother as a young woman - it doesn't look like her at all really!
Fellow NPs, I learned something yesterday which it might be helpful to mention on here. The Dyson fans which take in warm air at the back and blow cool air out at the front work on a magnetic system, and are not advisable where someone has a pacemaker fitted!
I only know because a friend and I were looking at one in the local department store yesterday, and another lady came along and said she had been told that. Then an assistant came along, the lady asked if it was true about the pacemaker thing, and the assistant wasn't aware, so she got the instruction manual out of the box and sure enough it was mentioned in there. But not everyone bothers to read instruction manuals....0 -
....not everyone bothers to read instruction manuals....
Instruction manuals are something you try to find/dig out if, 2-10 years later, it's stopped working
Even then you don't read it all.... you just paw through hoping for an "instant fix" to be obvious on a random page.... before you toss the booklet back down and try the old "turn it off, turn it on" again.0 -
Where has everyone been? Having a life IRL?? On a Tuesday evening??
Boring stuff, another filling decided it had no place in my mouth.
You spend time searching for cheap household insurance, negotiating extended warranty on the car and then a filling needs replacing with a crown and your back to square one!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. What happens in this thread?
Generally, I browse these forums without really posting because the tone is largely quite aggressive (in a passive sort of way)
Is the title of the thread ironic? Are you actually just chatting about general things in a nice way?
It says for nice people only, is there a test?0 -

The best thing to do is to have a look at the first post on the thread, which sort of explains everything, really.

Then you have to sit an exam, to prove your niceness.

Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Welcome, ctlfc
This morning I bought DS a reusable coffee cup made of recycled disposable coffee cups, as he always stops on the way to work to collect a coffee from the little independent coffee shop down the road. I chose a light-coloured one with a pale blue lid. I suspect he will hate the colour scheme; there was a black one with a green lid but I thought the light one would make it easier for him to see if he's washed it up properly when he's at the office0 -
Proud parent moment here: just got back from watching DS's drama group's play. He was the star, and also wrote the play. It was a murder mystery comedy, and very successful. The audience laughed in the right places - he had been terrified that nobody would get any of the jokes but needn't have worried.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
