I think I fixed the hose. Looked at it from a distance a few times and realised "Hey, this is just a bunch of connectors and bits of hose ... and it all swivels". Eventually I got a big stick and scraped away the many years of detritus and old cobwebs that'd accumulated round the inner part of the reel mechanism and could see a grey plastic bit that looked like it turned. First, my genius thought was to unscrew that and connect it directly to the tap ... but, once unscrewed, all it did was expose the hose end ... so I did it up again - but TIGHT ... and turned the water on and am now getting 2x the water at the end of the hose to yesterday and almost no leaks.

    That'll do!

So HOT inside. 82°F/28°C ... but I can't get a through draught because if I open the patio doors a gale blows through - it lifted and threw my card I'd got out earlier when I bought the PC! That's one HECK of a wind ripping through... the wind here is peculiar and fierce.. but outside by the front door there's barely a breeze!

Any paypal experts here? I have money in my paypal account held as canadian dollars. I imagine that it would incur fees or terrible exchange rate to transfer to £s. Anyone know an easy way of doing this?

I've often had an assortment of furren currencies in my Paypal, I've just always let them do the exchange right before I transfer it to my bank account ... but mine are tiny sums ... and I only do it once a year or so.

Well, I can't :) The new unit is pretty small, I doubt it'd fit - and so I've added to my mental list "investigate the swinging sign up the road that says he does PC stuff and see if the HDD from here can be shoved into a case with a USB"

No idea if new PC has a DVD drive, never needed/used one. As for disk/key ... maybe, packed though .. and they're not originals :)

XP = desktop, icons, I know what I'm after and can find it from Start.... usually stuff in Accessories, or Control Panel.

7 & 10 = a big fat blank screen with a couple of pointless images on it ... and a fight to find the engine inside.

New PC does not have an optical drive.

The easiest way to transfer stuff is to copy it onto your USB external drive, then plug that into the new PC. I don't see the benefit of paying someone to take the disc out of your PC.

W10 has a start menu. Right-clicking that brings up a menu with useful stuff like settings (new name for control panel) and task manager.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Sooooooo hot still.

82°F/28°C indoors, even though all the curtains have been closed all day to keep the heat out!

I can't breathe... I bet there's still a wind vortex directly in front of the patio doors though if I went out there.

EDIT: And right after I posted that, the PC rebooted itself! Thermometer's now showing 83F, so I've dared to put the tower fan on for the first time. Hadn't looked at it before, I just thought "tower, get it"... there's a dinky remote control and there's even a timer on it. Set it to stay on for 30 minutes, just to play... after all, with a remote, I don't have to get up or move to turn it on again :)

Doing this "blind" so to speak, without opening Paypal
In the big box in the top left, there's "manage currencies"
Once there, you put in the amount, and the "to and from" currencies on the right.
    an then you click "convert"
I think that's right, I do it often, but you know how it is when you can't see it in front of you!
Paypal actually don't give too bad rates. That's real rates you can actually get, not the headline rates that only exist on paper.

    Where's Wally.

Well, first 3s up on the trampoline screaming... and now there's DOOFing somewhere... not "here" yet...

6.40 and that was it then... just 10 minutes in the distance 2.5 hours ago.

    Bliss :)

Thanks, but the fees section then states 3% to convert between currencies.

When I converted a lot of money to send abroad, I was shocked at the amount my bank wanted. It's why all these exchange companies exist. In the end, I held my breath and used one of those, and they did the job very efficiently.

You didn't use Crown Currency in Hayle in 2010 then...
