I found a cheap PC that I thought might suit you, just the other day, but I thought you've probably got a lot on your mind already with the house move.

I would like one, but have been putting it off because there are so many decisions and choices (that I don't understand).

This is XP Home and I've never used a new operating system, so fear choosing the wrong one that I end up hating, or that behaves bizarrely.

My sibling has a laptop I've occasionally tried to use when there - and it's a nightmare. I can't find things, I lose windows ... and sibling says "I can always tell when you've used the laptop because it's all wrong when I turn it on".

All I want to do is "what I've always done" ... log in - and see things I can start up.... yet her laptop seems to have some very basic things on the screen I'm not interested in - and I struggle to find a browser and to even get google loaded :)

I've used DOS 3.1, Windows 95 and XP Home... those new things are entirely alien beasts.

It's this one. I remembered you want something really tiny, which this is. Only £108.

You'll have to get used to Windows 10 one day, as XP is not supported.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It's not wireless... I don't want to have to huddle by the router, connected by a limited length cable.

I've got 40GB HD on this one - that's 128GB. I thought "everything" for the past umpteen years was heading towards daft terrabytes? Although 128GB is "a lot" .... is that a "little low" these days?

They offer wireless for £10 extra.

They will upgrade the disk to 240GB for an extra £50. These are SSDs, so very fast, and not many people have terabytes of SSDs.

Personally, I would not bother upgrading the disk, as you can plug an external hard drive into the USB port if you need more space.

    You're not missing anything PN.
Not sure there's any point in operating systems past XP or Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Regarding software "upgrades" it always seems that the chocolate ration is being raised to zero. :(

I have Windows 10 on my new laptop, it is ok, but I preferred 7 or XP. You get used to it though. And there are plenty of free tutorials at sites like GCFlearnfree:

It just seems daft to me that I worked in IT since about 30 years ago, but, due to fast moving OSs and lack of cash for me to "update, buy new stuff, get gadgets" in the last 7-8 years I've had to stick with what I've got, so I'm so far beyond "what the man on the street has/uses" it's unbelievable!

Even my Office is 2003... which is another reason I've put off buying another PC as I'd lose Office.... entirely.

My husband got me a code for Office 2010, which is what I use. It wasn't very expensive. I'm steadfastly trying to avoid buying any of the 365 products as you have to keep buying them. I think if I got to the point where I had to, I'd probably dump for free software as there is so much available.

Even my 2003 was ... er .... magically appearing. I didn't buy that.
