 is the thread sinking?
I've been ill since Thursday, so haven't been logging on. Was expecting to find loads of posts to catch up with, but there's only been one since Thursday!
Eh? What's that? Sun? What sun? I've been in bed.
Yesterday evening there was loads of thunder and lightning and a couple of torrential downpours.
The thunder was that constant rumbling sort.(I just lurve spiders!)

I've been working....and when not working, collapsing. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Sorry to hear that, hope you're on the mend now - although I guess you must be because you have logged on.Yesterday evening there was loads of thunder and lightning and a couple of torrential downpours.
The thunder was that constant rumbling sort.
I've been quiet the last few days because I've been busy;
1) Planting out plants I needed to get out of the greenhouse - various garden flowers, sweetcorn, calabrese, cauliflowers, romanescos, cabbages and purple sprouting broccoli - plus evicting the tubs of spuds, which are now growing on very nicely.
2) Checking the greenhouse irrigation and transplanting the "triffids" from pots in the house to growbags in the greenhouse - tomatoes, cucumbers, melons and aubergines. The tomatoes, especially, had got rather large and really needed to go to the greenhouse a couple of weeks ago but it was too cold for them. I won't be sowing them so early next year.
3) Sowing yet more seeds - leeks, parsnips, runner beans, courgettes, squashes.
I still have the first sowings of carrots and lettuces to do and another variety of parsnips to sow.
Then that'll be most plants sown, just some staggered sowings to do and any successional sowings of some to follow early harvested ones, e.g. when the early peas I planted a few weeks ago have finished fruiting, I have another type to go in to follow them.
Oh, and last years purple sprouting broccoli has started sprouting so I've been harvesting that, very tasty it is too. One of my perennial cauliflowers is starting to make heads too.0 -

I'm still here. Let's see, what can I post about...
V proud of DD yesterday. She was going out for the afternoon from friends. She asked for my advice before she went - the friends were intending to save money on their afternoon out in the sort of way that is actually against the rules but lots of the population do it. I'm not going to say what it was because the specifics of the choice aren't the point. She knows that when we've been in such situations as a family, I've kept that particular rule and paid the higher price, so she wanted to know what I thought. I talked about some rules being more important than others, and the rule in question being a thing, but not an enormously important thing, and that she was old enough to decide for herself and it was fine for her to choose either way what she wanted to do. She indicated that she wasn't comfortable going along with what the friends were going to do. I said that whatever the rights and wrongs of the particular situation, I was quite sure she shouldn't agree to do anything she didn't feel morally comfortable with.
Then as I was driving her and one of the friends to where they were meeting up with the other friend, I got to listen to her withstanding peer pressure. She started with "I don't want to do x", moved to "It would trigger my anxiety" and, when pressed further, finished with "I'm not morally comfortable with that." The friend repeatedly tried to persuade her "because everybody does it" but she held firm. The argument only stopped when I intervened to point out a way in which they could do what they wanted to do together without compromising either DD's moral scruples or the friend's limited finances, and they went off happily.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I wish all NPs well. My apologies for not dipping in more often.
I'm just watching the London Marathon, and there is very little which makes me more envious, in truth.
I wasn't able to follow up my first marathon due to infection, but my intention to complete more remains stronger than ever.
There are so many fantastic individual stories being covered. I have admiration for every single one who takes part. It's a really really long distance, right at the limit of my ability. I know a guy who ran it all in a proper diving suit! I was just in awe.0 -
DW listens to church from Jamaica on Sunday afternoons. For the congregation, it basically consists of 3 hours of having someone shout at you. Explains a lot about what DW thinks is a reasonable way of behaving....I think....0

The service at our synagogue starts at 9:30 and finishes around 12 o'clock. However, lots of people turn up late. Who can sit through 150 minutes of prayers? DW tends to get there about 1030, but some of the other people get there JFK, just for kiddush, ie just in time to have the drinks and snacks after the service. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
The brunch was interesting. The food was very good. What was interesting was the option to pay £4 extra to have as many Bloody Maries as you can get down in 90 minutes.
You'd think that was the path to financial ruin for the restaurant, but in practice nobody took them up on the offer. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Well, it turned out nice this afternoon - so I got the first batches of carrots, lettuces and the second variety of parsnips sown. The beds are filling nicely, assuming that the things actually come up that is0
