Thought I'd pop in and say hello to you all :)

Ups and downs here unfortunately. Lost a close (emotionally) relative fairly recently, which has been tough to deal with and still isn't all sorted.

He's left me some money, which is very kind, and I want to put it to good use. So, I'm 90% sure I'm going to buy a flat in Inner Herts! Which is quite exciting. I really love where I am in London but I've been here 3 years and if I have the opportunity to buy it really makes sense if I can find somewhere I want to be.

It has all caused a lot of upset in the family though, which I won't get into now.

    Hope you're all well!

    Hiya!

    Bittersweet news.

However, great that your relative's kindness is enabling you to buy somewhere! That's exciting!

MSE are aware of it, hopefully fixed soon. In the mean time you can save your current password as the new one.

    Sorry for your loss.

I got locked out in some ludicrous loop that said the different one I'd chosen was too weak, then couldn't reset. I hope MSE sort it out as it is one heck of a palaver.

Well howdy soon to be Inner Herts neighbour!

Sorry to hear about relatives. As silver says, hopefully they will come round. This sort of thing always has a way of raising it's ugly head when someone with money or possessions dies, it isn't just your family or you. It is really sad.

Nice to see you again Masomnia.

I fear I will have some resistance when mum and dad go, I'm the executor of their wills and my instructions are clear....the house has to be sold and the proceeds split 3 ways, under no circumstances is one of us to move in and buy the others out. Unfortunately, both of my siblings love the old house and say it would be good to keep it in the family.

It's why I am the executor and not my elder brother, apparently I am the unemotional, no nonsense, sensible one (I do get emotional...in the privacy of my home), so they feel I would be the only one to carry out their wishes without being hung up on the house, or falling apart.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    I didn't get a new password demand.

Maybe I logged in after they fixed it?
I was a lot later than usual this morning.

I won't log out when I go out soon, just in case.

Presumably, though, there's nothing to stop one of them buying it when it's on the open market? Ok, they'd have to find the full amount, and not just two-thirds,but then they'd get their third back eventually. Still, if they want it that much..........

What Pyxis said (and phrased so well).
    And welcome back, Masomnia. :hello:

Oh dear. That does sound tricky. You would do well to get a really good probate solicitor who can lay down the law to your siblings on your parents' behalf. What's the solicitor who drew up the will like?

Looking on the bright side, perhaps they will live long enough to sell it themselves and move into some kind of supported living when they are very old indeed, but still lucid enough to make decisions about housing.

And the stamp duty and conveyancing fees :(

Am sitting here feeling uninspired by the amount of "getting things done" required in my own house, and wishing I could transfer some of yesterday's "on a roll" enthusiasm to today. Why is it that it's so much easier to motivate myself to get on with somebody else's tasks than my own???

In other news, Aged P told me yesterday that he wanted to get a move on with sorting out his house because he needs to get it done while he's still physically fit to go up in the loft and sort out all the stuff that's been up there for decades. We're talking about a Victorian house with high ceilings, and a loft with no lighting, electricity supply, or fixed boards, so it's a long steep climb up a very wobbly wooden ladder to get to a dark space with little to prevent falling through the ceilings of the rooms below. I have expressed a strong opinion to the effect that since the whole loft will need to be emptied before the house can be sold, there's no need for any sorting to occur up there - we just need some strong able bodied people to bring everything down and put it in one of the rooms that's had most of its furniture removed, and the sorting can be carried out down in the house. He has at least agreed not to go up in the loft when he's alone in the house, so that's one small mercy.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
