All the cars were covered with ice overnight, but then we got the tail end of your stormy weather earlier this morning, Pastures. I was so glad I had a pair of wellies, as I had to go outside to bring the bins in. The sun's come out now though!

Not seen a single snow flake this winter, but I'd not expect to "this far south". I've rarely seen enough snow to fill a bucket in the last 20 years or so!

It still hasn't come any closer to me than 2 miles horizontally and about 500' vertically.
A few more miles away, even at low level, it's apparently been pretty awful. Various accidents and some hills blocked with vehicles that can't get up them.
The high passes have, of course, been closed for several days anyway due to ice.

We tend to have a fairly good idea as we are very aware how much leccy our car uses - for example the 4 miles 'down hill' to H uses hardly any whereas the way back uses noticebly more....

    Ah, good point!

    Sounds interesting Pastures.

I don't know if anyone else has Irish ancestors... I have one ggg grandmother from there, but the Irish records online have really improved. I managed to get a free pdf of her marriage certificate which not only confirms my theories of her father but also both of their addresses.

I did the same search about a year ago and didn't yield anything like this. It goes to show how quickly the landscape has changed.

Does anyone know of any genealogy threads anywhere on MSE? I'd like to have a read if there is.

Sounds like Pastures could have her very own thread, being the resident expert! :)

I suppose the Mariages, Relationships and Families board would be the place for it?

Good morning! Speaking of families and family trees.
(a bit obscure, this) A year from tomorrow (i.e. 31/12/2018) every adult in the world will have been born in the 2nd millenium and every child in the 3rd.

There's a muddled meme going round on twitter about 20th and 21st century that doesn't register that there's at least one 19th century person still alive, but the millenium version I posted above should hold true.

Do you know who that is?

I can only find reference to an Italian lady born in November 1899 but she died in April this year, and she was credited with being the oldest person alive at that point.

It was Nabi Tajima who was born in August 1900 which was the last year of the 19th century (although the original twitter meme assumed, wrongly, it was 1899). I don't think anybody else born later that year is still alive.

Feels very much like part of the script to Children of Men, zag :)

Wasn't it the death of the last 18 year old which kicked off the storyline?

I wonder if the survivors of the Great War in the UK will be a greater landmark when the last one passes away, particularly those who fought.
