Has anybody else watched The Miniaturist? (The first half was on last night).

It's fantastic! I can't believe how good it is, on every level......... plot, acting, sets, script, drama, mystery, atmosphere.......
It's like something straight out of a Rembrandt painting.

Can't wait for the second half tonight!

No spoilers please, it's on record. Glad you recommend.

Now, do you remember my problem with the credit card purchase from the States/China, where they wanted me to send them a photo of my credit card?

Well, after a couple more emails from me, and definitely no card photo sent, they finally sent me an order confirmation with an order number.

On that it said that although all duty is paid, in some circumstances there is still duty charged. If that happens, to send them a copy of the duty paid and they would reimburse.
    I thought oh God!:(

So I spent a couple of days worrying that I would get a VAT bill before delivery, like the other time, (which would have been huge, due to what I had bought), and then I just decided to write the whole thing off as the worry was getting me down.

Anyway, earlier today the parcel arrived.
    It was all there.
    The right colour.

    Phew.

    Never again, though! :D

Went 4 miles to W this evening, snow everywhere whereas here the slush had melted by yesterday lunchtime, elevation is pretty much the same, wierd.

Did my tax return online a few months ago but didn't submit, can't remember why, now I need to decide if I want to check all the figures before hitting the submit button....
    I think....

No snow here, just very clear, bright and cold...well it was during the day, now it is dark, clear and cold.

We're off to Norwich for the day tomorrow to do some retail therapy, the boys are that is, I'm just going along for a day out and to do something different to the normal hum drum.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Not something I've ever had to do, presumably I don't earn enough and/or never had taxable income from more than one source ;)

I helped Dad with his paper one once, then did it for him a couple of times because I was managing his finances for him (he couldn't cope with online banking any more) and finally did one to close off his estate after he died - but still on paper.

I should be OK for a dozen years or so, because my taxable income is still all from one source but will probably get caught for doing a return when my state pension starts because that'll then mean I have two sources - unless they just change my tax code for the occupational pension.

All my other income is either within the interest allowance, within the dividends allowance or dividends within an ISA.

Elevations around here are confusing. You drive along what appears to be a relatively flat road but it ramps up slowly. Where I live it is about 100-150 ft higher than your town, but I do live at the top of a hill. When I drive to Harpenden and think that it was much higher as you go up hill to it, but at some point I must have gone downhill too, as the elevation is not dissimilar.

Still, the good news is that pretty much nobody in Herts has to worry about rising sea levels.

No snow here, but it is very cold. It's also really dark this morning. Brrrrrr....
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

A lot depends on the inclination as well.
South-facing would melt far more quickly than north-facing, obvs.

We tend to have a fairly good idea as we are very aware how much leccy our car uses - for example the 4 miles 'down hill' to H uses hardly any whereas the way back uses noticebly more....
    I think....
