We set off for a short walk at lunchtime yesterday, that turned into a long walk. We managed to get back to the street lights just as it was turning really dark. I'm used to London, where there's enough light pollution that you can more or less see where you're going in unlit areas at night time. Here, it just gets pitch black! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Is that a whole turkey? For one person!??
I think Pastures mentioned a turkey joint, unless I dreamt that.
Although, a whole turkey for one isn't so very strange, as you can portion it up once cooked and freeze the portions and so it would make several meals over any period of time.
The scraggy bits can be used for stirfries, and the bones can be boiled up, reduced, and provide the stock for some nice soups later.
Dozens of meals from one bird.
One year, with just two of us, I roasted a small turkey and did all the above, and it lasted for ages.
And when I had a dog, the skin and membranes and cartilaginous bits of the bones, plus any meat that fell off during the bone-boiling did her proud too!
All that was left was a very small bag of nude bones.
Nowadays those bits of bones would go in the food waste and be used again that way!
Very MSE!(I just lurve spiders!)

The scraggy bits.... the bones .... skin and membranes and cartilaginous bits of the bones...
These are bits that don't enter my house. I'm "funny" about anything that's not pure breast meat/lean meat.... no scraggy bits here.
Gross.
I'm a food wimp. I didn't even touch the turkey breast. I peeled back the plastic seal wrapper and used a frying spatula to lift it from the pack into the SC. No touching! Gross.0 -

How small could a turkey chick be? Are they even a thing? Or are all turkeys fattened up for Christmas?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I suppose it depends how old they are.
There might not be much meat on them.
Plus the meat might not taste of much when they're very young, but I don't know.(I just lurve spiders!)

I suppose they start off very small indeed. I was once chased by a full-size turkey, and it was about waist height. Not all that scary, but I thought discretion was better than valour. You can hardly brag that you fought a turkey and won.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Happy Christmas :santa2:
We're going to DD2's in a while, after she and her family get back from visiting a friend and before they are collected by another friend to have lunch....and then we're going to DD1's for a buffet lunch.
Meanwhile, DS who was out until about 3 a.m., will sleep for a few hours yet then head to a friend where they'll cook Christmas dinner together.0
