PasturesNew wrote: »I bought some of that fizzy pop Mr C recommended as being like my favourite. Tried the first glass and not convinced. The bubbles aren't "as bright/sharp" and the taste is a little more "syrupy".... but I'll see how it goes when it's colder (from the fridge) and as I adjust to the taste.
At 42p/2 litres it had to be tried... but I don't expect it'll become a favourite. It'd be nice if I were wrong and warmed to it .... cheaper too.
EDIT: Had two lots now, still feeling the same. The bubbles in this don't "cut through"; drinking PMax is like a fast/fizzy "cleansing" effervescence in the mouth. This "is just some fizzy drink". PMax feels like it's "stripping your mouth/throat entirely clean" when you drink it...
I usually drink it with something alcoholic, however TBH at the moment can't justify spending £1.50ish on 2l of a fizzy drink when something can do the same job for 30% of the price.
Aldi is a bit hit and miss on quality of some things, however their £3-ish pizzas are lovely, as are most of their cooking meats, which are a lot cheaper than I can find elsewhere. I still buy (fresh) fish from the fish man on the market though, usually to eat the same night.
I do still pop into Waitrose for certain things (and free parking), although probably 80% of the weekly shop is done in Aldi now.Is it as good for cleaning the loo, though?
Actually I have been known to throw some fizzy drink down the loo after I've emptied the water out to descale it. I can confirm that about 1l of 42p stuff cleans it well.
Any fizzy drink should do it.💙💛 💔0 -
Woke up this morning feeling like I might as well "just die". Groggy, headache... went to refresh the wet tea towel, then remembered headache tablets. Not being one for popping pills it hadn't even occurred to me before to take a couple of those to get rid of the headache I had all yesterday evening! For those used to taking pills that might seem bizarre, but they've really never been part of my lifestyle. Took two Ibuprofen, headache's now gone and I feel better.
But ... it's another SCORCHIO today already!0 -

Glad you are feeling better.
As a general rule, I wouldn't take ibuprofen on an empty stomach.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Lydia I'm glad you managed Sports Day and the cycle home without heatstroke  I did wonder why you were at a secondary school Sports Day as parents don't usually go to those in my experience.....then I remembered you were a teacheri think the heat's addled my brain
.
We need to do some food shopping today. My OH is very easygoing with regard to food and will eat whatever he's given as long as offal isn't involved [waits for joke from Pyxis about offal/awful meals] but it would be really nice if just sometimes he'd say "What I really fancy for dinner is...."0 -
Ah, cheers for the info re Ibuprofen. To me all these things are just "painkillers". I think this pack is 25p from 4ldi. Aspirin, paracetamol, ibuprofen .... "all the same" to me. I'd be a useless druggie wouldn't I0

Yes, this was the school where teacher rather than either of the ones where I'm a parent. For sports day, we all get roped in to help. I like timekeeping best - less energetic than measuring javelin throws etc, and much less arduous IMO than sitting with one of the houses of students to try to make them behave. So I usually volunteer for timekeeping, except those years when my timetable doesn't have me working on Thursday afternoons. (Our sports day is always a Thursday afternoon.)Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Now, Ivy, what makes you think I would make such an obvious pun?
If I were to, I kid(ney) you not, I would never live(r) to tell the tale! :rotfl: (laughs heartily!)PasturesNew wrote: »Ah, cheers for the info re Ibuprofen. Aspirin and ibuprofen are anti-inflammatories; they belong to a group of drugs called NSAIDS, (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs). As the name suggests, they act on inflammation, as opposed to pain as such.
These can irritate the stomach, especially if not taken with food, and in very extreme cases, may cause or contribute to a stomach ulcer if not taken with care.
people who need to take them regularly are often prescribed a stomach-protecting drug as well, to take with them.
Paracetamol is a pain-killer, and it can also help to bring down a high temperature. It doesn't work on inflammation. If taken to excess, it may cause liver damage.(I just lurve spiders!)

Well, the parcel arrived, and it turned out that the Customs Charge was VAT.
Am annoyed because on the website it deffo says VAT included.
And on top of the VAT of £11.92, there was an additional £8 handling fee for Royal Mail.
That's the bit that hurts.
What's worse is that it has happened again. I ordered some sheet music from the States, and I got another Royal Mail card today demanding a Customs Charge before it can be delivered.
Assuming it is VAT again, the charge is £5.69, which fits with the cost of the music, but there is another Royal Mail handling fee of £8, as well.
I am so not a happy bunny at the moment.
For future reference, I don't suppose there's a way round having to pay Royal Mail for being a tax collector, is there? Like, paying HMRC the VAT directly?(I just lurve spiders!)

So, my phone has done something tonight and I've lost my Whatsapp messages, then been very confused whenever someone's sent me a message about something I've been responding to throughout the day.
Luckily all the important stuff is stored elsewhere but it's going to be interesting for the next few days. I'm hoping by the end of the weekend I'll know most of what is happening💙💛 💔0
